Joe Rogan features many different special guests on his podcast. The discussions in the podcast range from all spheres of life, depending on who the special guest in the specific episode is. Rogan has done various TV shows and was also quite a popular standup comic when he was younger.
Joe Rogan is quite famously bald and pulls it off quite well, thanks to his sturdy body frame. In an episode of his podcast, Rogan opened up about his hair transplant that left him with a scar. While talking about liposuction and plastic surgery, Joe Rogan chimed in, saying, “Well, I had a hair transplant.”
For a long time, fans have known about Joe Rogan’s hair loss, baldness, and maybe even his hair transplant. But many don’t know about the scar that Joe Rogan carries on the back of his head.
Joe Rogan regrets hair transplant
In the same podcast clip, Joe Rogan further discusses how he regrets having the hair transplant surgery. Joe Rogan made it clear that it was the dumbest thing he had ever done. He said, “Well, I had a hair transplant. That was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. One of the dumbest things.”
For someone in the visual entertainment industry, it sure is important to maintain an appealing look. Joe Rogan, around that time, fit this category perfectly. He was in a few shows and had to keep a classy look, something that the impending hair loss was not helping with at all.
As Joe further talks about in the podcast clip, this was probably the reason why Joe decided to go ahead with the hair transplant in the first place. Rogan further said, “I just was scared that I was going bald. I was like, what can you do? And they tell you they can fix it. They’re like, oh, great. I’ll just get it fixed. But it doesn’t really fix it.”
Later in the podcast clip, Joe further talks about how his hair texture might’ve been the real culprit behind his failed hair transplant. He said, “People with thick hair follicles can get away with it. My hair would have looked way better, but I have thin hair.” People can certainly tell that Joe Rogan was not quite content with his transplant and rather regrets it a bit.
How did Rogan get a scar on the back of his head?
Joe Rogan also clarified how he got a pretty visible scar on the back of his head while doing the hair transplant surgery. In doing so, he also made a joke, commenting about the situation of his transplant procedure.
Rogan said, “I have this giant scar on the back of my head. It looks like a smile… It’s like a piece of meat… Yeah, my joke was that it’s like taking people from a town where everybody’s healthy and moving them into a town where everybody’s dying. The only ones that were left were like the new recruits. Like the hair that was supposed to be up there was already falling out.”
Joe Rogan further compared the procedure done on him with the new procedures available on the market now. These procedures don’t leave behind a horizontal scar on the patient’s scalp like the one Rogan has. Joe said, “They take it from the back of your head. They take a strip off the back of your head. Now the way they do it, And a lot of places, they do it differently. They do one individual follicle at a time.”
Now that it is clear that Joe Rogan’s regretful hair transplant failed miserably, What do the doctors think about the famous podcaster’s transplant journey?
Doctor Gary Linkov reacts to Joe Rogan’s hair transplant
According to City Facial Plastics, Dr. Gary Linkov is a premier New York City-based plastic surgeon who has an exemplary background as a dual-Ivy League surgeon. Dr. Linkov also has a YouTube channel on which he reacts and posts educational videos about his area of expertise.
Dr. Linkov reacted to Joe Rogan’s hair transplant journey on his YouTube channel. According to the doctor, “He’s(Rogan) regretting it now years later because it probably didn’t do enough for giving him hair on top of his head and yet it left him with this long scar.”
Dr. Linkov further suggested, “It would be nice if more places were honest and told patients that you’re not going to get all of a sudden all of your hair back and he maybe was promised that and kind of went for it and now regrets it. So it would have been better to talk to him about medical therapy, things to improve his situation, maybe without surgery.”
The doctor commented on Rogan’s understanding of how people with thick follicles find it easier. Dr. Linkov stated, “So he understands that now, but it would have been good if someone explained that to him back when he was signing up for surgery.” In a way, the doctor kept suggesting that it might have been the lack of correct medical guidance that landed Joe Rogan in this situation.
