Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington have one of the most heated and personal rivalries in UFC history. The friends turned foes fought it out at UFC 272 where Covington soundly defeated Masvidal, sweeping the fight 50-44. However, with someone like “Gamebred,” when a rivalry turns personal, it seemingly isn’t confined to the Octagon.
Shortly after their fight, reports alleged that Colby Covington got assaulted at a Florida steakhouse. The perpetrator? Allegedly, his old friend turned bitter enemy, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal. After failing to get one over his bitter rival in the Octagon, Masvidal allegedly took things to the streets with Covington. The whole fiasco went viral as yet another UFC superstar had fallen into trouble with the law after the whole debacle with Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Soon, Colby recounted the incident to news outlets, and his story was wild. “I get sideswiped from the side, like I get punched in the mouth real quick and kind of get dizzied up and I look up and I see who it is, I can see in his eyes, it’s Jorge Masvidal. I can see his hair coming out of his hoodie, but he has a face mask on,” said “Chaos.”
Things looked worse for Gamebred after footage of his arrest and processing were released to the public, in addition to the earlier mugshots. Videos of him running in handcuffs certainly didn’t do any good to his public image. However, having bounced back from that, Gamebred will fight on the UFC 287 card. And this got fans wondering about the current goings-on of his legal battle with Colby.
Is Colby Covington still pursuing charges against Jorge Masvidal?
Most fans of Jorge Masvidal wish that this entire fiasco just dies down. Unfortunately for them, “Street Jesus” still faces assault and battery charges from his former friend and teammate. Considering Masvidal has a fight coming up, the date for the beginning of their trial has been pushed back.

A hearing at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse determined the dates for the case’s trial. The pre-trial for the case is set for May 10. And 12 days later, on May 22, begins the trial that determines the fate of Jorge Masvidal. If found guilty, Masvidal faces up to 15 years in prison. However, Gamebred has pleaded not guilty so far and has steadfastly denied any guilt in media appearances as well.
Despite such a massive threat to his career and livelihood hanging over him, in the buildup to UFC 287, Masvidal has looked unperturbed. Gamebred’s fans will be hoping that he dispatches Gilbert Burns quickly and impressively before clearing his name in the legal battle that is to commence against Colby “Chaos” Covington.
