At UFC Fight Night 221, bantamweights Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili face off at The Theater in Las Vegas. Right before the main card kicks off, Karl Williams vs Lukasz Brzeski ends the proceedings for the preliminary card.
Karl Williams will make his UFC debut at UFC Las Vegas against Lukasz Brzeski. Williams earned a UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series. Prospects from DWCS fighting on UFC Fight Night cards have become a trend of sorts recently.

Williams beat Jimmy Lawson via unanimous on DWCS 2022, week 7. Before his appearance on the Contender Series, Karl also competed once in the PFL, beating Miles Amos via decision. The American heavyweight has only lost once so far in his professional MMA career.
Karl Williams’ opponent, Lukasz Brzeski also earned a UFC contract through the Contender Series. But, unlike Williams, he technically did not win his DWCS bout. On the 2021 Contender Series, Brzeski took on Dylan Potter.
Hands up for the Bull 🙌

Even though the Polish heavyweight choked out Potter in the third round, the win was overturned to a no-contest. This was because Brzeski tested positive for clomiphene. He was subsequently slapped with a 9-month suspension and a $750 fine. He will try to right past wrongs against Karl Williams at UFC Las Vegas.

Karl Williams vs Lukasz Brzeski: Fight breakdown and prediction
At UFC Las Vegas, both Williams and Brzeski will be looking to break into the UFC’s heavyweight rankings. Jon Jones steamrolling Ciryl Gane has seemed to rejuvenate the HW division and both fighters will want to strike while the iron is hot.
Both heavyweights are quite well-rounded and present an interesting clash of styles for each other. Williams has a wrestling-heavy style, using the threat of a takedown to win the battle on the feet. This is evidenced quite well by his 3 takedowns on average in his fights.

However, this may not work too well against Lukasz Brzeski who has a very solid ground game. He is an expert at stuffing takedown attempts. Additionally, going to ground with the Polish heavyweight may also end disastrously considering Brzeski’s grappling skills.
This fight, though close on paper, favors Brzeski. If he can stuff Williams’ takedown attempts and is able to keep the fight standing up, he should have a relatively easy path to victory. After all, he outstrikes Williams by almost 6 times, landing 6.86 significant strikes to Williams’ 1.6.
Prediction: Lukasz Brzeski wins via unanimous decision.
