Maycee Barber is a rising contender in the UFC’s flyweight division. Born in May 1998, Barber wanted to become the youngest champ in UFC history. She was certainly on the course of becoming a champion after a brilliant start in the UFC. Much like other elite fighters like Sean O’Malley and Jamahal Hill, Maycee is also a product of Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS).
After her TKO win over Hannah Cifers at DWCS, Barber made her main roster debut against JJ Aldrich in 2019. After knocking out Aldrich, Maycee Barber followed up with another TKO win over Gillian Robertson. At that point, Barber was unbeaten in her career with a record of 8-0. Hence, it was the perfect time for Barber to take the next step in her career and she faced Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246.
However, Modafferi’s vast experience showed and she ended up beating Barber via a unanimous decision. But Barber’s bad luck continued as Alexa Grasso beat her via judges’ decision in the very next bout. However, following that, Barber regained her mojo and defeated Miranda Maverick, Montana De La Rosa, and Jessica Eye.
Maycee Barbar, who currently holds a UFC record of 5-2 and an MMA record of 11-2, is set to fight Andrea Lee at UFC San Antonio. Ahead of the fight, let’s take look at Maycee’s dating life.
Is Maycee Barber married?
Maycee Barber has had a very interesting journey so far. When the 24-year-old wanted to enter the combat sports world and revealed her intentions to her parents, it did not go down well with them. Barbar’s parents Bucky Barber and Maryanne Barber immediately shot down the idea. In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Bucky spoke about the hesitation to let her fight.
He added that as a parent, both he nor Maryanne did not want their daughter to fight inside a cage. However, Barber stuck to her path and eventually convinced her parents to let her be independent as a fighter. After moving from Fort Collins MMA to Roufusport, Barber finally settled down at Team Alpha Male. With Urijah Faber in her corner, Maycee has turned around her career after a few setbacks.
With her family life and professional life seemingly sorted out, let’s put the focus on her love life. Maycee made some headlines for having an interesting incident with Austin Vanderford. In 2019, around the time she made her UFC debut, Maycee allegedly sent a direct message to Austin.
For fans who are unaware, Vanderford is a former Bellator title contender and former UFC fighter Paige VanZant’s husband. As one can imagine, Paige was not happy about the occurrence.
During an appearance on The MMA Hour, the ex-UFC fighter added, “Being a disrespectful person shouldn’t be valued, and I definitely won’t give her the time of day. I’m not going to take the bait, and that’s why I’ve stayed quiet the entire time. Actually, I was going to say ‘yes’ to the fight, but I think it’s completely inappropriate to slide into someone’s husband’s DMs trying to get a fight. At the time, Maycee was gunning for a bout against VanZant. Hence, Paige felt that Barber slid into her husband’s DMs to set up the fight. Other than that, Maycee has not been linked with anybody so far. So it will be safe to assume that Barber is currently single and solely focusing on her MMA career.
