An unfortunate incident took place in a New York subway on May 1. In a northbound F train, a homeless man by the name of Jordan Neely was choked to death by someone who is reported to be a 24-year-old US Marine Crops. officer. Apparently, Neely was being aggressive and erratic during the train ride as he was reportedly hungry and thirsty.
However, it is also important to mention that Neely did not harm anyone physically despite having an active warrant for a felony assault according to CBS.
He was placed in a rear-naked choke due to the unpredictability of his behavior and the ordeal was filmed by Juan Alberto Vazquez, who is a freelance journalist. He posted the video on Facebook and wrote a detailed description of what really happened.
Neely, who reportedly was a Michael Jackson impersonator, was allegedly placed in the rear-naked choke for about 15 minutes. When Neely was later taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead. Upon further inspection from the New York’s Office of the Medical Examiner, the death was reportedly ruled a homicide. Although the 24-year-old was taken into custody, he was reportedly released without any further charges.
But this has also prompted a severe backlash amongst the netizens. However, if the former UFC title contender Jake Shields is to be believed, it’s much ado about nothing.
Jake Shields comments on Jordan Neely being choked to death
The video from the Manhattan subway has caused a massive uproar. Jordan Neely, who was an African-American gentleman, was pinned to the ground by three male suspects, two of whom were Caucasian. It has sparked a racial debate. However, former Strikeforce middleweight champ and UFC welterweight title challenger, Jake Shields has made some controversial comments on the matter.
He took to Twitter and pointed toward Neely’s rap sheet. Apparently, the 30-year-old was taken into custody about 40 times by authorities and also struggled with a drug problem. Hence, Shields commended the men involved in the incident for their actions.
He wrote, “A black junkie with over 40 arrest was harassing people on the subway… A black and white men worked together to detain the junkie who ended up dying in the struggle… Now politicians and journalists are calling it a modern-day lynching… Knock off this pathetic race baiting.”

Shields had a huge brawl with former UFC welterweight fighter Mike Jackson in December 2022 at a UFC PI. Jackson, who was CM Punk’s last opponent inside the Octagon, accused Shields of being racist. Not only that, but he also made questionable comments on climate activist Greta Thunberg and sided with the controversial male life-guru, Andrew Tate.
