Alexander Volkanovski recently took on Max Holloway in a highly anticipated trilogy matchup at the UFC 276. He put on one of the best performances of his life to make it 3-0 against ‘Blessed’. Going into the fight, there was a lot of debate surrounding the prior two meetings between the two. However, Volkanovski left no doubt this time around by dominating Holloway for the majority part of the fight. But, what seemed to be a rather dominating performance didn’t come without adversity.
Alexander Volkanovski broke his thumb mid-fight and told his corner about it. However, his head coach Eugene Bareman dismissed it and told him to fight through it as there was nothing they could’ve done about it. In a recent episode of Submission Radio, Bareman revealed the same and said:
“I just leant into his head and said ‘Don’t mention that bloody hand again. I said, ‘We can’t do nothing about it now, I don’t want you to mention that again.’ He knew what I meant, I meant evaporate completely out of your mind.”
It is safe to say that Eugene Bareman’s words were enough for Alexander Volkanovski to fight through a broken thumb. As he dominated Max Holloway for another three rounds and successfully defended his UFC Featherweight crown with a broken thumb.
Did Alexander Volkanovski win all five rounds against Max Holloway?
As mentioned earlier, Alexander Volkanovski put on one of the best performances of his life to get the victory over Max Holloway. He dominated the majority of the fight to walk away with a unanimous decision while defending his UFC Featherweight championship.
Interestingly, the Australian won all of the five rounds on all three judge’s scorecards after having put on a show of his life. This means that the scorecards of the fight read, 50-45, 50-45, and 50-45 in favor of the champion.

In doing so, Alexander Volkanovski has successfully managed to go past every real challenge there is in store in the featherweight division as well. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead in his career and perhaps we could see him move up to the lightweight division as well.
