It has been whirlwind for the UFC Bantamweight division ever since Henry Cejudo vacated the title belt after picking up an impressive TKO win over former champion Dominick Cruz. With a spectacular win over Cory Sandhagen, it looked like Aljamain Sterling was next for the Championship belt. However, Dana White showed no interest in the match-up, and all eyes pointed at Cody Garbrandt. In an interesting turn of events, it was recently announced that Cody Garbrandt would go down a weight class to challenge Deiveson Figueiredo for the UFC Flyweight Championship.
Petr Yan took on Jose Aldo for the vacant UFC Bantamweight Championship at UFC 251. Yan fought a brilliant fight against one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time and looked spectacular in the latter rounds. Yan picked up a 5th round TKO win over Aldo to become the new Bantamweight champion. Soon after winning the Championship belt, Yan called out Henry Cejudo and poked fun at former champion Cody Garbrandt. Petr Yan did not call out Aljamain Sterling, and the #2 ranked bantamweight contender has called out Petr Yan on multiple occasions to get the title opportunity.
Aljamain Sterling to fight Petr Yan in December?
Aljamain Sterling deserves to fight for the Championship belt. Sterling is on a five-fight win streak with notable victories over Cory Sandhagen, Pedro Munhoz, Jimmie Rivera, and Cody Stamann. Sterling snapped Sandhagen’s undefeated UFC streak and picked up an impressive victory over top contender Pedro Munhoz. With such an impeccable resume, it’s hard not to give Sterling a title shot.
Hey @PetrYanUFC how’s December? I can sign for you to get your visa. Lmk bro! 😉

Sterling took to Twitter and called out Petr Yan for the UFC Bantamweight Championship. Sterling offered to fight Yan in December. Funkmaster said, “Hey Petr Yan how’s December? I can sign for you to get your visa. Lmk bro!”
Both Petr Yan and Aljamin Sterling have been exceptional inside the octagon. While Petr Yan is a striker, who likes to keep the fight on the feet, he is equally brilliant on the ground. Yan has a solid takedown defense and could prove to be a tough challenge for Sterling. However, Aljamain Sterling has an impeccable submission game and is equally brilliant on his feet. The fight has the potential to be a barn-burner, but only time will tell if Aljamain Sterling will fight for the title belt next.
