Brand Royval just submitted Matthew Christopher Schnell in the first round during their bout at UFC 274. It only took him 2 minutes and 14 seconds to sneak in a guillotine choke to secure the victory. Following that, he expressed his wish to be the backup for the UFC Interim Flyweight Championship fight that is in the works. Apparently, Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France will be the ones fighting for it.
Kai is on a three-fight win streak, while Moreno just lost his belt to Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 270. But why does the UFC feel the need to book an interim championship bout when Figueiredo just won the belt two months ago?
JUST THAT QUICK! ⚡️😮💨

The 125lbs champ is apparently injured. During his last fight against Moreno, Deiveson injured his hands. According to reports, The God of War is not expected to fight anytime soon. With the champ out for a significant period of time, it makes sense for the UFC to have an interim champion in the place. Figueiredo is apparently looking for a return to action late this year.
Brandon Royval wants to be a backup for Brandon Moreno vs Kai Kara France
With his victory at UFC 274, Brandon Royval now has two back to back wins in the Flyweight division. According to MMA journalist Aaron Bronsteter, Royval revealed that he wants a quick turnaround. He wants to be on the wings for the abovementioned bout between Moreno and Kara-France.
Just spoke with Brandon Royval backstage and he said that he would like to be the backup for an interim flyweight title fight that he heard is in the works between Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France.

Many fans may forget, that Royval was in the prime position for a title shot against Deiveson Figueiredo two years ago. He had defeated Tim Elliott and Kai Kara-France back to back in 2020. But he lost to Moreno in a no. 1 title contender fight at UFC 255. As a result, Moreno ended up fighting the Brazilian champ and the rest is history.
Royval is currently ranked no. 6 in the division at the moment. But his relatively low ranking may not be an issue as he already holds a victory over Kai. In addition to that, he is one of the most exciting fighters in the division. Hence, Brandon Royval may just get his wish granted.
