UFC 272 is finally in the books and it was an incredible night of fights. Although a lot of fighters showed that they are made for the big stage, the night belonged to one Colby Covington. He defeated Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision in the main event tonight.

Despite the judges’ decision, it was an incredible fight. Both fighters had their moments of brilliance in the Octagon tonight. Colby Covington pushed the pace early on in the fight. He took Jorge Masvidal down in the first round and managed to get Gamebred’s back.

But Masvidal did not allow Covington to sneak in the choke. In the second round, he had a better performance. Earlier, Jorge’s manager revealed that Colby may be carrying a knee injury. Trying to take advantage of that, Masvidal landed a few leg kicks. However, things really started to heat up from third round onwards.

Colby Covington seemed more than willing to stand his ground and exchange strikes. While he landed a vicious kick to Jorge’s chin, Masvidal clipped Covington with a sharp counter shot as well. But that was the last of Jorge’s big moments in the fight.

From then till the end of the fight, The ‘Chaos’ seized control of the contest and dominated the remainder of the fight. He came close to finishing Masvidal once again in the 5th round. By the end, Covington’s cardio once again reigned supreme as the 37-year old Jorge Masvidal seemed exhausted. Judges awarded the fight to the former UFC interim welterweight champ as they scored it 49-46, 50-44, 50-45.
