Things are heating up ahead of this weekend’s UFC 279! One half of the PPV main event on September 10th, Khamzat Chimaev, got into a heated altercation with Paulo Costa. In a recently surfaced video, Chimaev and Costa were seen going back and forth while others present in the scene, tried to contain them.
The clip started with Khamzat calling out Costa across the cage in a UFC performance institute. The Borz was visibly angry with Costa for some reason. It seems Costa made some previous comments about wanting to go up against the Swedish fighter. Chimaev did not take Costa’s words kindly and wanted to settle things on sight!
“You wanna fight now? Did you say you wanna fight now yeah?” Once Costa replied that he would fight him, Chimaev stated, “I wanna f**K you up right now. Yeah, come on, come down!”
Chimaev also brought up Costa’s fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 253. Adesanya dominated the fight and stopped Costa at the 3:59 minute mark of the second round. Making reference to that, Chimaev said, “You’re Brazilian p***y! What’s happened with Israel? He f**k your a** yeah… I’m here, you said you want to f**K me up? I’m here now.”
The clip ended with Chimaev walking away from the altercation and saying, “Well, when you come say, it become a chickens and he like, he don’t see me. I say right there, he don’t come and f**k me up. He say he wanna fuck me up and stay there.”
The altercation comes on the heels of Paulo Costa siding with Nate Diaz at UFC 279. As the fans know, Nate will have his last UFC fight at the upcoming PPV and Chimaev will be his opponent. Although Nate is an underdog, Costa thinks Nate is a real gangster and he will beat Chimaev.
Paulo Costa reacts to his heated altercation with Khamzat Chimaev
After the altercation went down, the fans heard from Paulo Costa immediately. The Brazilian fighter put out a video from his perspective and gave his reaction to the whole fiasco. Costa accused Khamzat Chimaev of being scared and needing his whole team to protect him.
“And (Chimaev) said my name. He called me to talk. And I went there, I faced him. He said, ‘Hey, Borrachinha, why you talk about me?’ (LAUGHS) I say, ‘Man, why I talk about you? You want to fight me?’ He said, ‘No, I want to know why you talk about me.”
“(I replied), ‘If you beat Nate Diaz, I want to fight you.’ And he froze! He say, (Dumfounded facial expression), ‘OK, so let’s fight now.’ And his whole team (went) to the middle between me and him. Man, this guy is scared. He’s scared as f**k!” (h/t via MMA NEWS)
Before the altercation, Paulo Costa also put out a tweet where he called out both Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev. Costa stated that he is capable of knocking out both Whittaker and Chimaev in the same round. It is safe to say that Paulo is targetting a fight against either one of them next.
