The main event for UFC 270 is set. The grudge match almost 5 years in the making is finally coming to fruition. No. 1 ranked UFC welterweight Colby Covington will be fighting his arch-nemesis Jorge Masvidal. The match promises to be an entertaining one. However, Chael Sonnen has a damming verdict on the implication this contest might have on Masvidal’s career.

On his YouTube channel, the ‘Bad Guy’ shared his views on the match-up between the two former teammates. According to the former UFC middleweight and light-heavyweight title-contender thinks the upcoming fight is a potential ‘career-ender’.

Sonnen said, “In all fairness, I really got to show respect to Masvidal. Because this is a career-ending fight. It is that big of a deal. There will be that much attention, that much focus and that hatred going into this battle.”

“Jorge, who is the second biggest draw in combat right now, who is coming off of two defeats, if he goes out there and he gets taken down and he gets mauled for 25 minutes, it is going to take a lot of lustre off of the shine that is the no. 2, second biggest draw, the BMF, Jorge Masvidal. Jorge signed up anyway, I respect that,” added Chael Sonnen.

Can Jorge Masvidal win against Colby Covington?

Colby Covington has the perfect style to counter Jorge Masvidal’s striking. The former is a master of picking his shots. ‘Chaos‘ does not put too much power behind his punches. His style requires him to put together a series of punches and shoot for the takedown. Covington has prior knowledge of how Masvidal fight as the two used to train together. Hence, it is pretty hard to see a path to victory for Masvidal.

Let’s have some fun. Jorge Masvidal (@GamebredFighter) vs. Colby Covington (@ColbyCovMMA) will headline UFC 272 on March 5, per UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell. Five rounds, Las Vegas. Can not WAIT. https://t.co/URQfa6FEMm

However, counting out ‘Street Jesus‘ will be a big mistake for Colby. Jorge has elite striking and counter takedowns well. His flying knee KO of Ben Askren is still fresh in the mind of MMA fans. Although ‘Gamebred’ will be a betting underdog, coming into this fight, he will be a dangerous opponent for Colby if taken lightly.

UFC 272 will take place on March 5 in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. North American fans can order the PPV via ESPN+.
