Colby Covington destroyed his long rival, Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC Vegas 11. It was the best performance of Covington’s career and certainly one of the highlights of that fight card.
However, Colby Covington is not the only one on that card who was able to impress the fans. In the main card of UFC Vegas 11, Khamzat Chimaev fought Gerald Meershcart in a middleweight showdown. The rising star of UFC Khamzat Chimaev secured a KO victory in just 17 seconds.
Since then the MMA world has been buzzing about Chimeav’s performances and the potential he has. Chimaev has even called out pretty much everyone including Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya, and Conor McGregor. Well, Colby Covington also made the list of fighters Chimaev called out after the KO win last week.
In a recent interview with Submission Radio when Colby Covington was asked about Chimaev’s callout, he dismissed the performance of Chimaev in a typical fashion. Covington stated:
“I don’t even know who that is. I remember someone saying there is some kid on my prelims that was fighting and he had a bunch of hype on him. He has not fought anybody that’s ranked in the top 15 in the world. They did not even bring me into the building before the co-main event. I did not see the prelims and this kid you talk of. If he gets some ranked win and becomes somebody come see me. I am the greatest fighter in the world. I am not looking to avoid anybody. I am looking to beat everybody.”
Colby Covington sends a warning to Khamzat Chimaev
Though Colby Covington denied validating Khamzat Chimaev’s work in UFC so far he is certainly not avoiding him. However, he is confident that he will destroy Chimaev if he ever faces him in the octagon. Covington continued:
“If you wanna bring the hype machine behind this kid and think they are great and they can do this and that. That hype machine will get halted in a second if they come see Colby “Chaos” Covington. And that’s dragon energy.”
Though Khamzat Chimaev has looked very impressive so far in his UFC career he is yet to face a ranked opponent. He has huge potential. But, Whether his skillsets hold up against the likes of Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, and Gilbert Burns will be interesting to watch.
