Conor McGregor has an interesting stance when it comes to slap fighting. Recently, ‘The Notorious,’ came across disturbing footage of a slap-fighting contest from Romania. As such, let’s take a look at what he had to say.
In a video, we see one of the fighters taking a heavy slap with an already swollen and bruised face. Upon getting hit, the recipient of the slap even complains about a possibly illegal hit.
Absolutely gorgeous technique congrats the new heavy weight champion. https://t.co/8DYrjn8EQP

The clip, which has crossed a million views at the time of writing, has garnered a lot of attention. Thus, McGregor also gives his take on it, quote tweeting: “Absolutely gorgeous technique congrats the new heavyweight champion.” Interestingly, some believe that Conor’s remarks may have been sarcastic, judging by the state of the fighter.
The RXF Slap event comes under the banner of the Romanian fight promotion, RXF MMA. Moreover, the athlete with the bruised face is believed to be Sorin Comsa, who went on to win the bout. Despite the victory, the event and the whole sport itself have received a lot of criticism.
“CTE incoming”, and “Thinking about the future brain damage,” were some of the comments left under the video. As such, the sport is being widely criticized for being detrimental to the fighter’s health. Despite this, UFC President Dana White will soon be making his way into the sport with his own slap-fighting promotion, Power Slap League.
However, the debut of White’s Power Slap League will be slightly delayed. This is due to the UFC head honcho’s New Year’s Eve slapping incident with his wife.
Dana White defends the slap league and has advice for everybody hating on it
For the most part, Slap fighting is widely regarded as a sport that borderline guarantees CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) for the athletes. As such, many have raised questions about its safety and why it is even a sport. The common consensus regarding the sport is that it’s a very high risk, with very low reward.
In Slap, they take 3 to 5 slaps per event. Fighters in boxing take 300 to 400 punches a fight.

Ahead of the release of his Power Slap League, UFC President Dana White has made his case, defending slap fighting as a sport. In an interview, Dana states, “We’ve spent the money to make sure we’ve got two healthy people in there, proper medical attention during and after the fight.” Further, he adds, “In Slap, they take 3 to 5 slaps per event. Fighters in boxing take 300 to 400 punches a fight.”
Dana’s Power Slap League has garnered some interesting comments as well. As for Joe Rogan, he admits that he will be watching it, despite it not being his cup of tea. Similarly, even Conor McGregor believes that slap fighting has seemingly grown on him. As such, he’s even called for a fight against the Stockton Slapper, Nate Diaz, in the PSL!
The Power Slap League kicks off on Wednesday 18 January on TBS at 10 pm ET/PT. Whilst many believe that it will be a comedy show, there are others that think Dana might be on to something great. Which one will it be? Only time will tell.
