Fandom is known for its undying support and passion for what they love. Hence fans had their hearts broken when a fake Twitter handle, impersonating Ariel Helwani, posted that UFC is looking to book Conor McGregor vs Charles Oliveira for UFC 290 in Las Vegas. However, it turns out that it was not the real Ariel and just a troll who impersonated the Canadian journalist.
Usually, fans on Twitter can tell the difference between a real account and the fake one, as the authentic accounts are verified. But, there are a lot of changes going on over at Twitter at the moment. Tesla CEO and Billionaire, Elon Musk now owns Twitter. Immediately after the acquisition, Elon promised some big changes. One of the biggest changes came in the verification process.
🚨 BREAKING: Conor McGregor will headline UFC 290 against former LW Champion Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira next June in Las Vegas. The 5-round bout will be contested at 170 lbs. Full story coming soon. The Notorious is back. pic.twitter.com/mYbOU2VF6L

Twitter now has an $8 monthly subscription plan for the verification process. In simpler terms, it means that anybody can have the blue tick beside their username if they pay $8 per month. But that also means that users can bypass a checkpoint for the verification and get the bluetick for a fee. However, it led to someone impersonating Ariel Helwani and putting out fake news.
Hence, it made some fans furious at Elon Musk for allowing it to happen.
Here are some Twitter reactions on the matter

UFC commentator Joe Rogan had an interesting take on Elon Musk buying Twitter earlier in the year. According to Joe, Elon values the right to free speech and he will not follow the route of censorship. However, Elon clearly has a lot of issues to work out and this incident proves that.
What is next for Conor McGregor and Charles Oliveira?
Charles Oliveira was just in action in October earlier this year. He lost the opportunity to regain his lightweight title against Islam Makhachev in the UFC 280 main event. He suffered an extremely heartbreaking loss and it is never easy to lose at the biggest stages.
Hence, Oliveira wants some time off. Although there were rumors that he may have a quick turnaround, Oliveira took to Twitter to state that he was not looking for a fight.
Not gonna happen.

I need a break.
Thank you guys! https://t.co/RWBSurIPsg
On the other hand, Conor is looking to return in 2023 as well. McGregor is not a part of the USADA testing pool at the moment. Hence, he will have to go through a mandatory 6 months of testing. Judging by his physique at the moment, Conor is eyeing a return to the 170lbs vision. Michael Chandler recently threw his name in the mix to be Conor’s next opponent.
