UFC welterweight and BMF title holder, Jorge Masvidal has been out of action for a while. Last taking on best friend turned bitter rival Colby Covington, Masvidal is yet to make his return. Moreover, Masvidal was also arrested after attacking Covington outside a Miami club.
Since then, Masvidal has been touted to make his return against a number of opponents. Most notably, Masvidal asked to fight Leon Edwards, with Gilbert Burns also calling for a scrap. However, judging by what “Gamebred” recently tweeted, we could be seeing him go up against a certain Conor McGregor.

Big fight news coming soon
— Jorge Masvidal (@GamebredFighter) January 26, 2023
Recently, “The Notorious One” announced on Instagram that he has been offered a coaching role in the upcoming season of TUF. For the most part, McGregor seems keen on reprising his role which he previously took on Season 22 of TUF. Interestingly, shortly after Conor’s post, Masvidal tweeted, “Big fight news coming soon”.
Although it could simply be a coincidence, fight fans are suspecting something more. According to fans, the timing of the two posts is too convenient, as likely serves as a teaser for the rumored matchup to finally come to fruition.
Previously, Masvidal was also rumored to be a part of TUF alongside Colby, but that never materialized. However, from a business standpoint, putting Conor and Masvidal, two of the UFC’s biggest PPV stars in TUF before a potential fight, could easily generate some record-breaking numbers. However, there are also reports that Tony Ferguson is also in contention to be Conor’s opponent for the upcoming TUF season.
Jorge Masvidal vs Conor McGregor- the rivalry continues?
Previously, things reached a boiling point between Masvidal and McGregor. With the pair going back and forth on numerous occasions, a fight was heavily touted in the past. However, at the time, Dana White declared Masvidal ‘too big’ for Conor.
With McGregor, seemingly twice his previous size and eyeing a return to the 170lbs division, the UFC could make it happen. Realizing the same, Jorge has been calling for the fight ever since his loss to Colby. Previously, Masvidal pointed out Conor’s hesitation to fight and even accused him of cocaine addiction.
With neither fighter in the best form nor currently warranting a shot against the top contenders, a fight against each other is the only logical option. For Masvidal, who is a TUF alumnus, and Conor, a former coach, to finally settle their beef is something fans would love to see. As Masvidal previously said, “I think we’d shatter all numbers, all previous records,” fans also share his sentiments.
Although in theory, the matchup sounds exciting, the next few weeks will be crucial. Even though it sounds like a no-brainer, the UFC could have other plans in mind. However, if it does happen, we can expect Conor to take on Jorge in the summer. Thus, we could potentially have yet another blockbuster card, adding to the already stacked lineup we have for the year.
