Dana White gave an update about Tone Ferguson’s next opponent after it was recently reported that Dustin Poirier won’t be signing the contract after failing to come to terms with the UFC. Dustin Poirier vs Tony Ferguson was scheduled to co-main event UFC 254 for a potential #1 contender’s fight for the UFC Lightweight Championship. However, it all fell apart after Poirier stated that he is not getting the right price to fight Ferguson in his next fight. “I am a prizefighter and the price needs to be right,” Poirier stated.

During the post-fight conference soon after the conclusion of UFC Vegas 10, Dana White gave a major update on Tony Ferguson’s next opponent. White revealed that UFC has given all hope of a possible Dustin Poirier vs Tony Ferguson and is looking at a fresh opponent for the former interim Champion.

When asked whether UFC is trying to do anything to salvage the entire situation surrounding Dustin Poirier’s decision to withdraw from the bout, White revealed that they are not doing anything to make it happen and that the company is looking for a new opponent for Tony Ferguson.
“No, we are not even trying to salvage it. We are getting another fight.” Dana White stated.
Tony Ferguson was scheduled to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight gold at UFC 249, however, the bout fell apart after travel restrictions due to coronavirus made it impossible for Khabib Nurmagomedov to travel out of Russia. Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje accepted a short notice bout for the interim gold. Gaethje triumphed over Ferguson in a brutal fashion to grab his opportunity at the lightweight gold against Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, fight fans around the world appreciated Ferguson for taking the short notice fight and believes that he deserves a title shot with one win inside the octagon.

It remains to be seen who will be his next opponent, however, there is an interesting option in the form of Dan Hooker considering most of the lightweight fighters either have a flight booked or are ranked too low for Ferguson to make the fight look exciting.
