There was a controversy when the lightweight champion of the world Khabib Nurmagoemdov stepped on the weighing scale ahead of the much-anticipated showdown against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Khabib Nurmagomedov showed in for the weigh-ins and looked visibly drained. However, the lightweight champion made weight and put up an absolute clinic against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Numragomedov looked quick on his feet and went head-on against one of the fiercest strikers in the history of MMA. After not being able to takedown Gaethje in the better part of the first round, Nurmagomedov shifted gears in the latter minutes of the first round and continues the same momentum going into the second. It was a matter of minutes in the second round before Khabib Nurmagomedov perfectly executed a triangle choke in his third successful title defense.
Daniel Cormier clears the air surrounding Khabib Nurmagomedov’s tough weight cut
Former dual champion Daniel Cormier cleared the air surrounding Khabib Nurmagomedov’s tough weight cut. In the interview, Cormier shoots down the various conspiracy theories.
“The man that says what the weight is, is the man who has the final say. The scale was gonna go up and down, it doesn’t matter. It happens all the time. It goes up and down all the time. I can’t believe these conspiracy theorists.” Cormier said.
The Eagle has had a history of tough weight cuts, having to use the towel even during the weigh-ins against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242. Earlier, Nurmagomedov had pulled out of his much-anticipated showdown against Tony Ferguson after a brutal weight cut which left him unconscious right before the weigh-ins.
“If he was 155 flat, which he was. He was 155.0, that scale is gonna go up and down and balance itself. Once again gotta ask people if your eyes want to see something bad in someone, it’s going to tell you something wrong happened.” Cormier added, “When he left the hotel, I saw it. I saw him get on the digital, and he was 155.0 and right down to the doctor’s scale, he was 155.”
