Former UFC bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt will make his flyweight debut in UFC for a title fight against Deiveson Figueiredo. This fight is scheduled to be the main event of UFC 255 in November. However, there is a hiccup ahead of this much-anticipated title fight as Cody Garbrandt has tested positive for COVID-19 as reported by multiple sources. ( first reported by AJ Fight)
We have seen many fights getting canceled on days notice after the fighter tests positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, the fans will likely get to see the flyweight showdown between Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt. The fight is still a couple of months away from now. And UFC is trying to keep this fight intact for UFC 255.
UFC 255 will also feature a flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Jennifer Maia on the co-main event. However, it will be a big hit to UFC if it loses the main event of the November PPV.
Deiveson Figueiredo is not an easy matchup for Cody Garbrandt
Garbrandt is coming off a highlight-reel knockout victory over Raphael Assuncao. This was the first win for Garbrandt after years. And it seems he is trying to make the most out of the win by getting a title shot against the flyweight champion.
This is an extremely smart move for Garbrandt. While a win against Deiveson Figueiredo will enrich his legacy a loss won’t really affect his rankings in the bantamweight division. However, whether he would be able to perform at his best after the tough weight cut is what intrigues the fans the most. ‘
Former bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw failed miserably when he moved down to flyweight to fight Henry Cejudo. Can Cody Garbrandt defy the odds?
Besides that, Deiveson Figueiredo is not an easy matchup for Cody Garbrandt irrespective of weight class. Deiveson Figueiredo has vicious knock out power for a flyweight fighter. And his dominating performance against Joseph Benavidez proves why he is a problem even for bantamweights in the UFC.
Though it is guaranteed to be a barn burner the health and safety of Cody Garbrandt is a concern at the moment. Here is Sportsmanor wishing a speedy recovery to Cody “No Love” Garbrandt.
