The no.10 ranked heavyweight is set to compete this weekend against Jailton Almeida. However, this match was almost canceled when Lewis was arrested.
Lewis was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and a misdemeanor charge. It was reported that ‘The Black Beast’ was driving his red Lamborghini at a very high speed while switching lanes in a very unsafe manner. According to ABC13, Derrick was driving at a speed of 136mph in a 50mph zone. Furthermore, it was reported that school buses with kids were on the road during this incident.
However, when a reporter asked Derrick Lewis about this incident during the media day, he had a surprising response. “Nah, I don’t think think that was me. Now that guy (has) got hair. You’ve seen the picture? I don’t got no hair, that ain’t me,” said Lewis.
Derrick Lewis will be facing the No. 9-ranked Jailton Almeida on November 4, 2023, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He will be replacing fellow heavyweight, Curtis Blaydes.

He showcased the speed of his black car on the race track which is okay but in the current case, he was driving at 136mph on the road.
He was released after posting a $100 personal recognition bond and will be able to compete on November 4, 2023. However, he is scheduled to appear in court on December 27, 2023, with defense attorney Edward Chernoff.

Many MMA fans are curious to know if ‘The Black Beast’ will be facing jail time or not. ESPN reporter Marc Raimondi has now shed some light on the potential jail time for Lewis. According to Marc, the maximum sentence that can be given to Lewis is a 30-day arrest along with a $200 fine.
The next court date for Derrick Lewis is Dec. 27 following his reckless driving arrest. The maximum sentence if convicted is 30 days in jail and a $200 fine. But most of these cases result in the defendant just going to a driver’s safety course, per the Harris County DA’s office.

However, he also mentions that in most of the cases, the defendant just has to undergo a driver’s safety course as per the requirements of Harris County DA. It looks like this incident did not impact the heavyweight fighter as much as he was acting like his usual self on media day for UFC Fight Night 231.
