Dricus du Plessis is all set to challenge for the middleweight title at UFC 297. Moreover, ahead of the fight, he has managed to antagonize the champ, Sean Strickland. All things considered, Dricus reveals that he does not regret anything that he said at all.
Previously, Sean and Dricus went at it at the UFC’s 2024 Seasonal Press Conference. Although they initially started off quite friendly, things soon escalated between them. Whilst Strickland brought up Du Plessis’ coach and his questionable actions, the South African brought up the champ’s abusive childhood. However, the comment struck a nerve with Sean, who is usually unfazed by his opponents.

Speaking in a recent interview, ‘Stillknocks‘ revealed that he harbored no regrets over his statements. “Would I do it again? Yes. I would say the exact same thing.” Further, the challenger went on to add, “You think you can break people on a mic? I’ll show you how to break someone on a mic.” With UFC 297 fight week upon us, the two are set to meet each other once again at the press conference and weigh-ins.
Notably, the UFC and the team behind the event will have to take extra care with the two fighters around. owing to a logistical mistake, Sean and Dricus were seated very close to each other at UFC 296. As many may have expected, all hell broke loose, resulting in an all-out brawl. Hopefully, such a thing can be avoided this time around.
Sean Strickland has warned Dricus du Plessis not to bring up his childhood abuse again
As for Dricus du Plessis, he believes that Sean Strickland must atone for the things he has said and done. According to him, the middleweight champ has often made comments about other people, including Ian Garry, when it was not his place. Notably, ‘Tarzan‘ once made fun of Khalil Rountree Jr. for crying, which has not aged well for him.
Recently, Strickland delved deeper into his childhood trauma on a podcast with Theo Von. Speaking in brutal detail, people could really sympathize with him after hearing the unspeakable horrors that he had to face. Thus, it was a very surreal moment where someone as resilient as he was moved to tears. Naturally, it was a very traumatic episode for him and something that affects him to this day as well.
With that said Strickland has vowed to make Dricus pay if he makes any more out-of-line comments. Speaking to Chris Curtis, he said, “Remember when I attacked Dricus? I actually sent him a message… ‘Dude listen, Dricus, we’re gonna go try to murder each other, but if you bring that sh*t up again, I will f*cking stab you. Press conference, weigh-in.” Thus, the champ sent a stern warning to his opponent, should he not watch his tongue.
For the most part, it is expected that the two will trade jabs during the press conference. Although a lot has already been said and done, the two very much respect each other as fighters. However, when the moment comes, it will be interesting to see if either fighter says or does something unruly. With the press conference only a couple of days away, fans cannot wait to see how things unfold.
