Yesterday was the holy festival of Christmas. Dustin Poirier wished everyone a Merry Christmas. However, Conor McGregor, Colby Covington and Nate Diaz were not amongst his wishlist. He has had encounters with all three men recently. The Louisiana native is currently in talks with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to make his return in January against Nate Diaz.
Dustin Poirier has had a year that he will perhaps remember for the rest of his life. UFC 178 was the lowest point in his career. He lost to Conor McGregor in the very first round of their bout in 2014. The 32-year old avenged his loss to the Irishman right at the beginning of this year.
Merry Christmas to everyone!!… except Nathaniel, Conor and Colby but everyone else hope you have a great day!!

He followed it up with another devastating performance in the trilogy fight against Conor McGregor. Dustin defeated McGregor via doctor’s stoppage in the fight to earn a title shot against Charles Oliveira on UFC 269. Unfortunately, he fell short for the second time while fighting for the 155 lbs championship.
Dustin Poirier Targets Diaz, McGregor and Covington
Although Dustin Poirier fought valiantly against Charles Oliveira earlier in the month, he was finished by the lightweight champion via Rear Naked Choke (RNC). After his defeat, above mentioned fighters took to social media to slander him. Nate Diaz led the charge with multiple verbal jabs at Poirier.
According to multiple reports from reputed journalists such as Ariel Helwani reported in the last few days that representatives of both fighters are currently negotiating with the UFC in order to secure a slot for the fight in January. However, It does not seem as if the bout will not take place. The tweets and counter-tweets from both fighters certainly indicate that.

Even if the fight between two longtime rivals does not pan out, the two-time title contender is not hurting for options. Dustin can revisit the rivalry with Conor McGregor. Because of the doctor’s stoppage in the last fight, McGregor has called the fight unfinished. It’d be a big fight and something that might push Dustin towards another title fight. Colby Covington is another option that he can pursue as there is an inbuilt story.
Colby Covington and Dustin Poirier were teammates at American Top Team (ATT). But the former had a massive fall-out with his training partners and parted ways with the gym. Since then Dustin and Colby have been jawing at each other. Hence, a fight between the two will make a lot of sense as it is a grudge match.
