Recently, Dustin Poirier sat down with Ariel Helwani of ESPN MMA for an interview after conquering over Conor McGregor in UFC 257. They discussed about what’s next for Poirier. Apart from that, they also talked about if Poirier wanted to be promoted to the undisputed champion or if he wanted to face an opponent for the vacant belt, given Khabib vacates the title.
Notably, they also discussed about a potential fight between Nate Diaz and The Diamond at 155lb. To those who don’t know, Nate had called out Poirier after the latter knocked out McGregor in UFC 257. Check out the conversation between Helwani and Poirier regarding a potential Nate Diaz fight:
“One name we haven’t talked about which I have to ask you about obviously is Nathan Diaz cuz he isn’t always usually very clear about what he wants and I think he’s pretty clear that he wants you. He posted a picture. I’m sure you saw his tweet and all that.
What do you make of that one, that option?”, asked Helwani.

“It’s exciting, it’s fun. Those are the kind of fights that I want to be a part of, man. Fights that are exciting to me and I’m motivated to get up and bust my ass everyday. And, that’s exciting. That’s a guy I grew up watching. A guy who is still a very big name. And that’s it. That’s a exciting fight, I think the fans will be in for a great fight, if that one happened”, Poirier responded to Ariel Helwan’s question.
Dustin Poirier mainly emphasized on the fight’s entertainment potential and mass appeal:
“Does it make sense in the lightweight division? No. Does it make sense where I’m at, standing in the door front of a title shot? No. But it’s a fun fight and this is entertainment and this is fighting.”
