Tony Ferguson is an American mixed martial artist competing in the lightweight division of the UFC. Ferguson has won the Interim Lightweight Championship and The Ultimate Fighter 13 with the organization. He also holds the longest win streak in the UFC lightweight division at 12, along with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev.
Tony Ferguson last stepped in the octagon against English fighter Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296. El Cucuy seemed out of place and was dominated by Paddy, who won by decision. This became more prevalent and talked about as Ferguson had been training with famous fitness personality David Goggins. Although Tony seemed much more confident, it didn’t affect much of his performance.
Recently, rumors went viral about Tony Ferguson flying to Dagestan for training with his former rival Khabib Nurmagomedov. This seemed certainly unlikely based on the bad blood between the two. Ferguson cleared the rumor by stating, ” I’d never train with that fathead, Ol’e Khabieber can still eat a fat one…still my Bit** “29-1″ Champ CSO”.
The former Interim Champion shared that he would never train with his former rival. Further adding insults to Khabib for putting on weight after retirement and claiming to be the only one to defeat him. The hilarious banter was something fans always appreciated about Tony, but they were still willing and happy if the two Lightweight Legends resolved their differences.
Former UFC Champion and commentator Daniel Cormier urges Tony Ferguson to retire
Tony Ferguson, although one of the biggest and most respected names in modern MMA, seems to have struggled a lot in recent years. His downfall began after losing the Interim Championship against Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Losing via TKO, Tony faced a barrage of high-end striking and leg kicks from Justin; this was also the end of his 12-fight win streak.
Since the loss, the American Fighter hasn’t been able to bounce back and currently holds a 7-fight losing streak. This ties him with UFC legend B.J. Penn for the longest losing streak in UFC history. Ferguson has become a shell of his former ruthless self and seems to have lost his touch. Many fans and UFC fighters don’t want him to take any more damage in the Octagon.

UFC Hall of Famer and former Double Champ Daniel Cormier was clear in his statement, sharing, “Nobody knows when someone is done until they know that they’re done. Only Tony knows when it’s time. But it seems as though he’s the only one left that isn’t sure”. The UFC commentator advised Ferguson to consider retirement based on his recent performances.
Ferguson commented that he wouldn’t be retiring after the UFC 296 loss and urged fans to keep faith in him. Although the MMA community would love to watch the UFC fighter farewell with a victory, many are now concerned for the health and well-being of the 39-year-old.
