Ahead of UFC 297, Alex has made the trip to Toronto to support his friend Sean Strickland. During his visit, MMA media outlets asked him about his split from ex-girlfriend Merle Christine in December 2023. Despite the very evident split, neither party has come out with a proper statement until now.

Speaking in the interview, ‘Poatan‘ revealed some shocking new information. “Well, it’s a little hard to talk about this, because for me, I already deleted this person from my life. I would also like to ask my fans to also delete her from your life.” Further, the Brazilian adds, “It was a person I believed (in). I put her in my house together with my family. After all, I found out that she was married!”

As such, it is currently unknown as to whether Merle was married to someone else whilst in a relationship with Alex or whether she was married before. Either way, it brings a lot more clarity to the situation now that the real reason behind it is known.
When did Alex Pereira break up with Merle Christine?
For those unaware, Merle Christine was Alex Pereira’s girlfriend, who had become an integral part of his life. Following a divorce with the mother of his two children, the UFC double champ found love again with Merle. According to reports, Pereira’s latest partner was a TV presenter and a combat sports enthusiast.
Ahead of the New Year, many fans pointed out that Alex and Merle had seemingly unfollowed each other on social media. Whilst the fighter posted a clip of himself shadowboxing on a cliff, Merle took to posting cryptic quotes on her Instagram stories. Soon thereafter, it could be observed that Pereira had also deleted any and all pictures with her as well.
Initially, Alex introduced the world to his new love interest following his win over Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. Since then, the 36-year-old has posted numerous clips and pictures with Merle. Notably, the former middleweight champ would also include her in funny skits, including one with a fake proposal. Unfortunately, their union was short-lived, as little over a year later, the two have gone their separate ways.

As mentioned previously, Alex had remained mostly tight-lipped about the situation up until now. On the other hand, his ex-girlfriend Merle had a lot to say by way of virtue signaling. Despite not coming out with a statement or a message of her own, she did indirectly hint towards it on her social media.
Notably, Dricus du Plessis also began following Merle after news of her breakup emerged. Similarly, many began theorizing about Alex’s arch-nemesis Israel Adesanya’s involvement in the matter as well. As fans were quick to find out, Merle reportedly liked posts stating that Alex would lose his next fight. Soon thereafter, the ex-girlfriend also hinted at being harassed and trolled online by the fighter’s fans.
Recently, she once again took to her Instagram stories to write, “Unspoken expectations are premeditated resentments.” Whilst its relation to Alex’s statements is unknown, it could well be hinting at why the fighter decided to break up with her. In the past, Merle also posted a story hinting at Pereira’s supposed anger issues.
