Fans were not happy with Pat Barry’s involvement at UFC 274! He was cornering Rose Namajunas for her 115lbs title defence against Carla Esparza.
Rose Namajunas lost her UFC Strawweight title to Carla Esparza at UFC 274. It was one of the most uneventful fights in the history of the company. Combined, they landed a grand total of 68 significant strikes in all 5 rounds. To put things into perspective, Gilbert Burns and Khamzat Chimaev landed 227 significant strikes in just 3 rounds during their bout at UFC 273.
Usually, when a contest turns into such a stalemate, coaches do their best to motivate their fighters. Although coach Trevor Wittman did advise Rose to go after Esparza in the latter rounds, Pat Barry seemed content with her performance.
However, the judges did not seem to have the same opinion; two of them scored the fight for Carla while one favoured Namajunas. After Rose’s loss to Esparza via split decision, the fans turned on Pat for giving the former champ wrong advice.

Thug Rose is one of the most beloved fighters in the UFC. While walking out for the rematch against Esparza, Pat Barry hyped her up by calling her the best. The audience also responded to her with a huge ovation. But the mood clearly soured after the first few rounds.
When the audience started booing, Pat Barry asked Rose to stick to the game plan instead of trying to turn up the tempo. But the plan backfired as the champ’s inactivity ultimately ended up costing her the belt. It led to fans lashing out at Rose’s fiance on Twitter.

In the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White did not sound very pleased with the fight either. White stated that he “zoned out” during the bout. He also revealed that Rose Namajunas will not get an immediate rematch either. The upcoming fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Weili Zhang will determine the next contender for Esparza’s title.
