Khabib Nurmagomedov has already established his legacy as the greatest fighter in UFC lightweight history. Despite the reign of MMA greats such as BJ Penn, it would be hard to argue against the dominance of Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is the only fighter in MMA who has competed at the highest level and won every fight without any controversies. However, he was not always the dominant fighter that he is now.
A lot changed after Khabib joined AKA and started training with some of the greats such as Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold, and Cain Velasquez. And surely his game has improved after his AKA journey.
Though it is hard to imagine that Khabib Nurmagomedov can give a tough fight to heavyweights such as Daniel Cormier again and again fighters from AKA has confirmed the notions.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is a problem on the ground for fighters across divisions. Former UFC middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold who is arguably the most vicious fighter on the ground especially when he gets the top position shared a scary thing about the lightweight champion.
In a recent episode of food truck diary, Luke Rockhold said that Khabib Nurmagomedov is the only lightweight who has given him a tough competition on the ground. He even said that Khabib will be a problem in the grappling tournaments against the elite grapplers. Rockhold claimed:
“I mean he is pretty f****g dominant. I have trained with a lot of 155 pounders, a lot of 170 pounders, a lot of 185 pounders. I have never had a 155 lber come and chase me around the gym and wanna grapple with me and actually can compete with me.”
Who is going to stop Khabib Nurmagomedov?
Former UFC heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier has also praised the legendary grappling skills of Nurmagomedov many times. In a recent episode of DC and Helwani show, DC stated that he has had tough times against Khabib on the ground during training.
It’s insane that a lightweight can even come close to trouble someone as good Daniel Cormier, who has a huge weight advantage. Considering that, who will be able to stop Khabib Nurmagomedov at lightweight division is a question that will be nearly impossible to answer.
Khabib Nurmagomedov takes on Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 254. Many believe that Gaethje is going to be the toughest opponent Khabib has faced to this point. However, we all have made this statement way too many times and Khabib finds a way to defy all the odds and dominate his opponent. Will it be another mauling from the Eagle or will Justin Gaethje shock the world at UFC 254?
