Who is the greatest UFC fighter right now? The argument would certainly revolve around four UFC fighters. The lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, the heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, the middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, and Jon Jones.
Adesanya and Nurmagomedov are unbeaten in their MMA career so far. Jon Jones has a DQ loss on his resume, but he is widely considered the greatest of all time due to his body of work over the last two decades. Stipe Miocic is the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time.
MMA fans are divided when it comes to the GOAT argument. However, the former welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre believes that Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best fighter in UFC right now. In a recent interview with ESPN, GSP stated:
“I believe Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best fighter in the UFC. he is the best guy right now. He is undefeated. He has this aura of invincibility. The scariest thing for a fighter and the most exciting thing to fight is someone who seems unbeatable. So if I ever consider to comeback that would be the fight that I would be interested because of this reason. But, I have very mixed feelings about it.”
If we compare the resume of Jones and Nurmagomedov then Jones has beaten legends of this game during his legendary title reign. But, Jones is not as dominant as he used to be. On the other hand, Khabib has dominated every single opponent he has faced in the octagon so far.
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Georges St-Pierre, will it ever happen?
It has been more than 3 years since fans have been speculating about a fight between Georges St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, this fight has not come to fruition for various reasons.
It’s possible that Khabib Nurmagomedov finally takes on Georges St-Pierre after UFC 254. However, the stars will have to align for this fight to happen. UFC must agree to the terms of Georges St-Pierre.
GSP opened up about the potential fight in the recent interview and stated that he will not be making 155lbs for the fight. GSP would rather prefer a catchweight fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
GSP might relinquish the lightweight title if he beats Khabib. Considering that, a catchweight fight would help UFC to save one of his biggest stars, Khabib even if he loses to GSP since the title will not be on the line.
But, there are many ways the negotiations might play out and Khabib might end up fighting Tony Ferguson or Conor McGregor.
