The UFC lightweight division is stacked with some of the most entertaining fighters in the game. And when you are talking about entertaining fighters it would be impossible to not talk about Justin Gaethje and Conor McGregor.
Every time Conor McGregor steps into the octagon it’s a spectacle. When he goes to war the Irish fans join him inside the arena. And Conor has disappointed his fans on very few occasions. On the other hand, Justin Gaethje is probably the most violent man in MMA. And one can only imagine how huge a fight between Conor and Justin will be.
“Go fight Jorge Masvidal”- Ali Abdelaziz gives an ultimatum to Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor vs Justin Gaethje was on the table when Tony Ferguson was scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title. However, the pandemic outbreak presented a golden opportunity in front of Justin Gaethje. And he went on to fight Ferguson for the interim lightweight title.
What happened in that fight shocked everyone as Gaethje completely outclassed Ferguson. It was a masterclass performance from Gaethje against one of the best lightweights on the planet. After winning the interim title, Gaethje will go on to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed title.
Justin Gaethje breaks down a fight with Conor McGregor
When asked about a potential fight with Conor McGregor, Justin seemed open to that idea. However, he wants to fight for the title before he fights McGregor. When asked to predict the fight against Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje seemed very confident and claimed he would knock out the former two division champion. Gaethje stated:
“Distance control is the number one factor in any fight. It’s established in the first 30 seconds. It’s not visible. But it’s established. That would be a huge factor in that fight. Who can control the distance? The best thing about me is I kick the shit out of people. So when they are trying to control distance I can just kick them in the leg and try to reset that.”
Over the years Conor has been criticized for his fatigue in the later rounds of a fight. Conor looks like a world beater in the early rounds. However, he tends to slow down as the fight progresses. And that’s something Gaethje would like to capitalize on if he fights Conor. Gaethje believes he can take Conor into the deep water and finish him in the later rounds.
“I think I can knock him out. He has got about three rounds and then it’s hell. And he does not want to go to hell.”
Well, this fight is certainly going to be a barn burner if it ever happens. However, a lot would depend on the outcome of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje.
