“He Has That Veteran Mind”- Robert Whittaker on Working With Former Boxing Champion Johnny Lewis for the Israel Adesanya Rematch

Robert Whittaker will step inside the octagon this weekend to take on his old adversary Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title at UFC 271. Consequently, this is a great opportunity for The Grimreaper to avenge his 2019 loss against The Last Stylebender by reclaiming his lost middleweight title in the main event.

With less than a week left for this blockbuster rematch, the promotion has released a countdown video for the UFC 271: Adesanya vs Whittaker 2 on their YouTube channel. In this video, Izzy and Bobby Knuckles speak about their preparations for this upcoming title fight.

For this main event fight, the middleweight title challenger Robert Whittaker has joined hands with six-time word champion coach and boxing hall of Famer, Johnny Lewis. Whittaker spoke about the influence of the legendary boxing coach and the impact he has on his training camp.

“Johnny Lewis knows what he’s doing. He’s got a good head for the sport and he’s got a big personality and presence in the gym. When he’s watching or he’s urging you on to work harder, to work faster, you want to do that for him. He just has that veteran mind. That experience behind the wheel, that you just absolutely believe him.”

Coach Johnny Lewis claims that Robert Whittaker will  finish Israel Adesanya with his striking

After losing in a striking battle with Israel Adesanya at UFC 243, Robert Whittaker has improved his boxing skills significantly. The Aussie has shown remarkable punching power and has outstriked the likes of Darren Till, Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum.

Consequently, boxing Hall of Famer Johnny Lewis was highly impressed by The Grimrreaper’s boxing skills and praised him during the UFC 271 countdown video. “Rob is punching extremely hard and he’s not missing the target.” The legendary coach also went on and predicted that Whittaker will finish the fight if he manages to land two powerful punches on Adesanya.

“If he hits two within a round, we will be going home early said,” Johnny Lewis. Both Whittaker and Adesanya are extremely incredible strikers with great techinque, therefore it would be a treat to watch them face off against each other at UFC 271.
