UFC Vegas 68 is officially in the books. From a controversial majority draw to an Indian fighter earning a UFC contract, the card was filled with highlights. However, the main event was somewhat anticlimactic. Former UFC title contender Derrick Lewis squared off against Sergey Spivak in a 5-round heavyweight clash. However, the bout did not even last 5 minutes.
Sergey Spivak was on a great run ahead of the fight. Lewis, on the other hand, was on a constant decline. So Spivak was the favored fighter to win the contest. The Moldovan fighter did so in an exciting manner. At the 3:05 minute mark of the very first round, Spivak submitted Lewis with an arm triangle. With the win, Sergey improves his record to 16-3.

After the bout, Spivak spoke to Michael Bisping in his post-fight interview. While he wanted a Performance of the Night bonus, “The Polar Bear” also expressed his wish to fight Jon Jones next. Jones is fighting Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 for the vacant heavyweight title after Francis Ngannou’s exit. While there is no guarantee that he will get the Jones fight, he got the $50,000 bonus after beating Derrick Lewis.
Fans react to Derrick Lewis losing at UFC Vegas 68
While it is a happy day for Sergey Spivak, his opponent is going through perhaps the worst patch of form. While he lost 2 fights in a row previously, Lewis never had an extended losing streak. However, this loss against Sergey means that “The Black Beast” has now lost 3 bouts in a row. The glory days of him having the most knockout in UFC’s heavyweight division seem long past him.

While any fighter can lose, it is the method of his loss that is under fire. In his last fight, Sergei Spivak just bulldozed him under a minute. While the Spivak fight lasted a bit more than 3 minutes, he never got any offense in. Sergey just tossed him around and scored an easy win. Even after losing a lot of weight, it does not look like he is turning a corner.
His recent run of bad form reminds the fans of Tony Ferguson. Once the scariest lightweight fighter, Tony has lost 5 fights in a row. Even the former welterweight champ Tyron Woodley went out of the UFC on a massive losing streak. It looks like Lewis’ career is heading down that path as well and the fans want the 37-year-old to perhaps consider retirement.
