Derrick Lewis would like to see Ciryl Gane win the title fight against Francis Ngannou and become the new UFC heavyweight champion of the world.
Lewis is all set to take on Chris Daukaus on December 18, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 199. Ahead of his fight this Saturday, Lewis was asked about his preferred winner of the Heavyweight title fight between Gane and Ngannou next month on 23 Jan.
Responding to the question, Lewis was pretty clear about his pick as he wants Gane to win the fight. The former Bellator MMA and Legacy FC Heavyweight Champion believe that Gane is a good person and a genuinely likable person outside the profession. ” I would like Gane to win, He seems like a likable guy, I prefer him “, said Lewis.
According to the American, Gane worked hard for the title and deserved to win and he has nothing against him. Also if he wins he will be a more active champ than the current one, Ngannou.
“I believe that he deserves it. I believe that he is more active in this division. He is not really cocky and arrogant like Francis… He is a real likable guy” added Lewis.
On the other hand, Lewis expressed that Ngannou is very cocky and arrogant and is not a great champion and he doesn’t want him to win next month. ” Francis, It is what it is always f*** that guy,” said Lewis.
When will Derrick Lewis vs Ciryl Gane rematch happen?
Gane(10-0) will be going to face the biggest challenge of his professional career against the current UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou. The Frenchman made his UFC debut back in 2019 and since then has remained undefeated.
Throughout his journey to becoming the title contender Gane has defeated difficult opponents like Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexander Volkov, and Derrick Lewis. But, winning against Ngannou will be very hard.
Going up against the brute strength of the Cameroonian will be a great task for the challenger. If he wins next month, Lewis’s chances for the title fight will only increase. Even though Lewis defeating Chris Daukaus is another parameter, this way, Gane vs Lewis rematch possibility will be around the corner.
