Leon Edwards is stuck in the middle of probably the biggest robbery in the history of MMA. The #3 Welterweight contender of the world hasn’t stepped inside the octagon from over a year now, with his last victory coming against Rafael dos Anjos back in July of 2019. In a recent conversation with ESPN, Leon Edwards shared his thoughts on where his future is headed in the division, and what he thinks of Jorge Masvidal.
“He’s not as good as people think he is. I know he’s got the hype about him at the moment, but I don’t think what people are making it out, right? to be a World Champion. He’s a good fighter but not Championship material.”

Leon Edwards claimed that Jorge Masvidal is not a Championship level athlete, and called him a good fighter at best. Edwards also stated that Masvidal just has hype at the moment, while criticizing him for taking the rematch against Nate Diaz rather than fight him to determine the #1 contender’s for the UFC Welterweight Championship. Leon Edwards is currently without a fight and hasn’t fought for more than a year. With back to back victories to his name, and notable wins over Donald Cerrone and Rafel dos Anjos, Leon Edward is a solid contender for the UFC Welterweight Championship.
What’s next for Jorge Masvidal?

After a lackluster battle against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251, Jorge Masvidal is expected to take on Nate Diaz in a rematch for the symbolic BMF belt early next year in 2021. In the first fight, Masvidal picked up a TKO victory via Doctor stoppage in the main event of UFC 244 at the Madison Square Garden.

Where does Leon Edwards go from here?
There have been reports that Leon Edwards could face Stephen Thompson next. The former Welterweight title contender is coming odd a spectacular unanimous decision win over Vicente Luque back in November of 2019 at UFC 244. Leon Edwards could look to cement his title contention with a win over top Welterweight Stephen Thompson. On the other side, Colby Covington will lock horns against Tyron Woodley in pursuit of Welterweight gold later this month. Kamaru Usman will defend his title belt for the second time this year when he goes against Gilbert Burns at UFC 256 in December.
