Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler have been going back and forth following their fight announcement. With Chandler seemingly willing to play the dirty game, McGregor is showing him that there are levels to the game.
Recently, Michael Chandler started playing on the offensive and lashing out at McGregor on social media. Ahead of their fight announcement on New Year’s Eve, many felt that ‘The Notorious One’ was tormenting his opponent. With repeated fake-outs and not fully committing to the fight, Chandler was kept on his toes by the Irishman.
As such, Chandler has since gone on to return the favor by taking shots at his opponent online. However, McGregor, who practically built his career on trash talk, was more than welcoming of Mike’s action. Taking to his social media, Conor brutally laid into ‘Iron‘ with two now-deleted tweets saying, “I can bench press ten Chandlers,” and “Lifting belts> lifting weights.”
Notably, Conor himself has fully given in to playing the villain ahead of this fight. Whilst Chandler is already hard at work, the 35-year-old is yet to showcase similar effort and dedication. Previously, Michael went one step further and mocked McGregor for his embarrassingly low score on the punch machine as well.
What did Michael Chandler have to say about Conor McGregor?
Ahead of the yet-to-be-official matchup, there has been a lot of discussion regarding the weight of this fight. Whilst Conor McGregor, in his bizarre fight announcement, stated that the contest would be at 185 lbs, fans and experts remain unconvinced. For the most part, many consider Conor and Michael Chandler to be natural 155-pounders, meaning a fight at 185 does not make too much sense.
Throughout his career, Conor has fought at featherweight, before moving up to lightweight to claim double champ status in 2016. Since then, he has also made a trip up to 170 to take on Donald Cerrone in 2020. All things considered, the only possible motive behind him wanting to fight at 185 lbs is to have something for the history books. At the same time, many feel that strength and power also play a role in the matter.
As for Michael Chandler, he is willing to take on Conor at any weight, believing he is the stronger man. Speaking on his channel, Chandler said, “He’s not stronger than me. I would like anybody in the comments or anybody to tag me in videos of him lifting heavy weights. Go out there and show me a video of Conor McGregor lifting heavy, heavy weights. I actually looked before I got on this video, you can’t find any videos of this man lifting heavy, heavy weights”.
Whilst some may argue in his case in this matter, power alone will not be enough to win fights. Throughout his career, the key to McGregor’s wins has been his speed, technique, and movement. At the same time, what many, including Conor, have pointed out is the fact that Michael’s IQ and decision-making during fights have most often been his downfall. However, with a few months out, both fighters will have more than enough time to fix up.
