Bobby Green is about to headline the UFC event of his career alongside Islam Makhachev at UFC Vegas 49. The fight will take place inside the UFC Apex facility on February 26. Ahead of the fight, Bobby Green expressed his thoughts on what he thinks of Makhachev’s fighting style.
Bobby Green made his UFC debut in 2013. Since then, he has stepped inside the Octagon 18 times and every time, he has given it his all. Green has accumulated a record of 10-7-1 in the UFC. However, that is not something that bothers the 35-year old. According to him, entertaining the spectators is his primary objective.
During the press conference, the California native gave his opinion on Islam Makhachev and his win streak. The latter is currently on a 9 fight win streak and occupies the 4th spot in the UFC lightweight rankings. Green gave Makhachev the credit for that and acknowledged him as a championship material fighter.

“He has been really downplaying me. And I’m gonna keep it right 100 with you. He’s a good opponent. I think he’s definitely (good). He’s been on this win streak. He’s championship material according to wins. If we’re talking about just wins.”
Bobby Green thinks Islam Makhachev is “boring”
Despite acknowledging the championship qualities, Bobby Green has raised questions about audience interest in Islam Makhachev. The 30-year old primarily uses wrestling as a weapon to win a majority of his fights. If Bobby Green is to be believed, that is not what makes for a blockbuster fight. He said,
“But I feel like when it comes to the MMA stuff, it’s what product you’re selling. I always tell all my young fighters that (be aware of) what kinda product you’re selling. We’re all selling something. You know, the public is going to buy the best thing that they can find.”

“With Islam, he does what he does. But it’s kinda boring. Even if he (has) been getting finishes, it has still been boring. So my whole thing is entertainment (and) excitement. So he can be championship material but it’s fu**king boring. Nobody wants to see it. Nobody cares. I’ve fallen asleep watching hid fights. And then it’s like, ‘Oh there’s the finish.'”
“So they can show a bunch of finishes which is cool. But it was sleeping, it was boring, it was lacklustre. Some of these guys, it’s just a match. It’s just about the win. Everybody wants to win. And that’s cool for those guys. It has never been my intention. I never really cared about winning. I cared about entertaining, I cared about my and I cared about what kind of sh*t I’m putting out.”

Green will look to cause an upset this weekend and turn the lightweight division on its head. If Bobby successfully does manage to beat Makhachev, UFC might have another giant underdog folk hero in their hands. Fans can watch the event exclusively on ESPN+ in the USA.
