Khamzat Chimaev wants Gilbert Burns to stop crying if he loses this weekend at UFC 273. In a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, Chimaev added that Gilbert should focus on getting better instead shedding tears.
Gilbert Burns fought the welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, at UFC 258. He almost did the impossible as Burns badly hurt the champ. However, Usman kept his composure and survived the flurry of strikes. Once he fully recovered, Kamaru ended up winning the fight via stoppage in the third round.
Following the fight, Burns was understandably emotional. The opportunity of a lifetime to become a UFC champion went away. He could not hold back his tears as the coaches surrounded him and tried their best to console him.
Khamzat Chimaev asks Gilbert Burns to work hard instead of crying
During the interview with DC, Chimaev made fun of Gilbert Burns for crying the last time. He hopes that Gilbert does not get emotional if the result does not go his way this Saturday. The Borz said,
“I don’t know what it looks like. But I’m gonna take his heart and head. And I hope he don’t cry like always he do when lose his fights. I don’t wanna see my opponents cry at all like he did last time.”
Chimaev then pitched a hypothetical scenario of him losing this Saturday. According to Khamzat, he would go back to the gym and work even harder to get better. He said wins and losses are a part of the sport and advised Burns to keep training harder.

The 27-year old will fight the Brazilian on Saturday. If Khamzat can beat Burns, it will earn him the maiden title shot of his career. As for Gilbert, he will look to earn another championship opportunity to avenge his loss to his former teammate.
Although Khamzat has had 4 wins out of 4 fights, he has not fought someone with the skill set of Burns. Hence, the outcome of the fight will determine if Chimaev is indeed ready to take the big step.
