Earlier this month, UFC fight fans were welcomes with the opportunity of witnessing two of the best lightweight fighters in the history of MMA in the form of a potential Dustin Poirier vs Tony Ferguson in a possible #1 contender’s match for the UFC Lightweight Championship in the co-main event of UFC 254. However, it all fell apart after Dustin Poirier announced that he won’t be competing at UFC 254 after failing to come to terms with the company. “I am a prizefighter and the prize needs to be right” Poirier stated. In response, Tony Ferguson put out a tweet urging UFC President Dana White to “pay the man” so that “both hardcore and casual fans can enjoy a good fight.”

Dana White claims Dustin Poirier doesn’t want the fight against Tony Ferguson
Dana White stated that Dustin Poirier doesn’t want to face Tony Ferguson next, to which White received a prompt reply from the former Interim Champion. “I do want that fight. Simple and plain, I want to fight Tony. I like the match-up.” Poirier stated.
Dustin Poirier vs Tony Ferguson is an exciting match-up between two of the most entertaining fighters in the history of MMA. A possible Fight of the Year contender is also crucial in the current Lightweight rankings, with Khabib Nurmagomedov looking to return in April for his last fight before retirement. However, fight fans feel that Tony Ferguson should get the title opportunity next after failing to get his hands at a title shot despite winning 12 fights in a row at the lightweight division. Tony Ferguson could be looking at fighting for the title if he can get a win in his next fight. If Khabib Nurmagomedov can get past Justin Gaethje this UFC 254, the possibility of finally witnessing Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson is a likely possibility.
