Conor McGregor has been through a lot outside the UFC octagon with the multiple legal issues. However, things seemed to have changed after his return at UFC 246.
Conor McGregor seemed a different and better person. He was not trash-talking his opponent like he used to back in the days. He did everything right leading up to the fight and in the fight to mark an emphatic return. Fans started believing that they would see a more focused and active McGregor in 2020.
However, the recent incident has brought disappointment to both the fans and the former lightweight champion. Conor McGregor was arrested and interviewed for an alleged sexual assault attempt in Corsica. McGregor was training for a water bike race in Corsica, aiming to spread awareness on water drowning.
Conor McGregor denied the allegations vigorously and was later released without any legal action. But, he was again in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Earlier, McGregor took it to twitter to share his disappointment with the fans who are criticizing him. Calling out the hypocrisy among the fans, Conor stated:
“Suicide intervention yet ridiculing me in this manner online, at this horrendous time in my life. I am trying to stay strong for me kids and the people that rely on me and that love and support me. Thanks for the insults, hypocrite.”
Dana White’s statement on Conor McGregor situation
Though many fans criticized Conor for the recent allegations UFC president, Dana White seemed to take a neutral stance on it as he commented:
“That kind of a life, crazy sh*t happens when you’re in that type of lifestyle. You try to go out and act normal and be normal, and it’s hard to do sometimes. I’m not defending Conor in any way, shape, or form. I don’t know enough about the situation to talk about it all. But I do know I’ve gone out with him before, and it’s batsh*t nuts.”
Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the biggest star this sport has ever seen. And his fans would love to see him compete against the best fighters in the world rather than surrounded by controversies.
