Despite being under the spotlight for over 2 decades, UFC president Dana White has never been one to shy away from the controversies surrounding him and his decisions. Right from subjects like fighter pay to discussing his physical altercation with his wife, Dana always speaks his mind. Now he’s on the radar thanks to his close friendship with former US president Donald Trump.
The 76-year-old recently came under the microscope in regard to his alleged link to the adult film star Stormy Daniels. Stephanie Clifford, who goes by her stage name of Stormy Daniels had an alleged affair with Trump. Per Stormy, she met with Mr. Trump at a charity golf tournament in 2006. She mentions that the business tycoon’s bodyguard accompanied her to his hotel room, where she expected to have dinner with him. However, it ended up in a sexual encounter, per Daniels.
About a decade after the alleged incident, Donald’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen allegedly paid $130,000 to Stormy. This was part of a “hush agreement” about her secret affair with Mr. Trump. Cohen was imprisoned later on multiple charges. The former president has always maintained his denial ever since the allegations surfaced in 2018.
Since the payment was made just before the 2016 presidential elections, critics argue the money was withdrawn from the election campaign. However, Mr. Trump has argued that the money was his own and not from the campaign. Earlier this year, NYC District Attorney Alvin Bragg established a grand jury to check whether there is enough evidence. If Mr. Trump is prosecuted, it will be the first criminal case against a former US president.
Dana White has always been supportive of Donald Trump
New fans might be unaware that Dana White has been friends with Donald Trump for decades. The 53-year-old has always maintained that Mr. Trump has been supportive of the UFC almost since its inception. And that this is something he will always remember. “Dana White is the only essential person in all American Sports,” Trump said in his Fox Sports interview with Tucker Carlson.
Back when no venues in America wanted to host the UFC, it was Donald who offered a stage to pull off the events. Trump called the UFC brass and said, “Come to my place, do the event [UFC 31 and 32] here. We’ll have you at the Trump Taj Mahal.” While the former US president has gone out and about his way to support Dana in the past, White never forgot to return back.
The UFC head honcho insinuated that he campaigned for Donald due to their decade-old relationship. He has publicly endorsed Trump’s 2016 and 2020 presidential elections as a sign of friendship and gratitude.
White appeared to speak at several rallies during the entire campaign, including the Republican National Convention. Not only that, but he was also an intimate part of some of Trump’s key political strategies leading up to the election results.
