Recently, Islam Makhachev sat down with former UFC heavyweight champion DC to talk about his upcoming fight against Bobby Green at UFC Vegas 49.
While having a conversation about Daniel Dariush’s injury and Green as the last-minute replacement in the fight, DC questioned Islam about the difference Green’s inclusion in the fight would make in his Islam’s preparation.
Daniel stated on ESPN’s DC and RC show: “With Bobby Green, he has a very different style. He is very talented. He is slick and he is good at standup. But, what many people miss is how good of a wrestler he is. He is very good at defending the takedown and has a wrestling background.”
Responding to which DC again stated: “He has a wrestling background“. This time Islam gave a witty reply: “Maybe he watched some wrestling matches. I have wrestled all my life.”
It is possible that DC was referring to Green having a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Moreover, he also has a decent takedown of 72%. But, going by the stats, even these nos are significantly lower than Islam’s numbers.
Islam Makhachev is looking to finish Booby Green at UFC Vegas 49:
Clearly, Islam feels that Green is no match to him when it comes to wrestling and why not backing his argument Makhachev said: “I think I am gonna finish him first round because I know my grappling skills, I know my wrestling skills, I am gonna take him down make him a little bit tired and make him tap. I have to show people my level.”
With a nine-fight win streak, Islam currently has the best winning streak in the division, of course excluding the champion Charles Oliveira who is undefeated in his last 10 fights.
However, this doesn’t mean that the Dagestani is ignorant of Green‘s potential. He understands the danger of going against Green inside the octagon. But, he is confident in executing his skills as a dominant win against Bobby will give him a title shot.
