Stephen Thompson

The nicest guy in the UFC has stepped up to fight #3 lightweight contender Leon Edwards for a fight inside the octagon. In a rather straight forward call-out from the former Welterweight title contender,  Stephen Thompson said it makes sense and would be a great match-up.

All due respect @Leon_edwardsmma,which I have a lot of for you, I have been saying I would like to fight you for a while now! It makes sense and would be a great match up. I think that was my first Twitter call out ever. man, that felt weird. #FirstTimeForEverything. Thompson stated.
Leon Edwards has not fought for over a year, ever since his win against former champion Rafael dos Anjos. On the other hand, Stephen made an impressive return to the octagon after KO loss to Anthony Pettis. Thompson picked up a dominant unanimous decision win over rising prospect Vicente Luque.

Stephen Thompson vs Leon Edwards makes sense

While speculation was rife that Leon Edwards could face Stephen Thompson, with the former Welterweight title contender expressing interest in the idea, this time, Thompson has officially come out with a call-out in his “first twitter call-out ever.” #1 Welterweight contender Gilbert Burns reacted to the same, and said, “Let’s see what Leon has to say now!
Stephen Thompson is a UFC veteran, and Leon Edwards can create a case for a title shot with a win over Thompson. Despite seven back to back wins inside the octagon, Leon Edwards needs another big win over a ranked opponent to fight for the Championship belt. With Covington fresh off a victory and looking for his rematch against Usman, and Gilbert Burns set to fight for the title in December, Stephen Thompson is the right caliber fight to face in his next fight to get the title shot.
Earlier, Leon Edwards had called out Colby Covington after his emphatic win over former Champion Tyron Woodley. However, it’s highly unlikely that Covington will fight Edwards next. Earlier, Daniel Cormier expressed his interest in a potential Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards, with Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal looking like a better fight.
