Former Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre has repeatedly cited his concern about making weight for the Khabib Nurmagomedov bout. The Dagestani fighter competes at the lightweight division and has made it clear that he is not going up a weight class to take on arguably the greatest mixed martial artist in the form of Georges St-Pierre.

“We’ll see. Because now it’s a question for infrastructure. The stars need to align perfectly. It depends on who and what, I am not getting any younger. So we’ll see.” St-Pierre said.
St-Pierre teased a special weight class for the fight and claimed that both the fighters will have to come to a situation that they have never experienced before. While St-Pierre has never competed at the lightweight division, Khabib has only competed at the lightweight division ever since joining the UFC.
“Yeah look he needs to focus on Justin Gaethje. It’s going to be hard. It’s not going to be a walk in the park. The thing is I’m 39. Three years ago when I retired we tried to make the fight happen. I was all in. I was trying to make the fight happen. And UFC did not want to do it.”

St-Pierre stated that while he feels at his absolute best, he was at a better place three years ago when he proposed to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov. He claimed that the UFC did not want to go ahead with it, partly because of Georges St-Pierre not complying with his two-fight deal when he returned to face Michael Bisping should he win the Middleweight Championship.
Georges St-Pierre feels it would be a mistake going back to lightweight to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov
Georges St-Pierre further added that it would be a mistake to go back to the lightweight division, and feels that he and Khabib will have to come to a decision about the weight class which remains as his only condition to make his way back inside the octagon. Talking about his possible return, St-Pierre sounded confused, however, looked very much in approval of a possible UFC return.

“Why step back in? But why not step back in? “We only live once. That’s the question that I’m facing now, you know? If I have an opportunity to do it and all the stars align and I don’t do it – because I’ve still got it now. I’d say I’m in my best years. Will I regret, when I reach 50 years? I don’t know.” St-Pierre said.
