In the recent interview with ESPN MMA, Nick Diaz opened up on his much anticipated UFC return and the fight against Robbie Lawler.
The interview has the MMA community questioning whether Nick Diaz should be fighting in the octagon. The former Strikeforce welterweight champion even indicated that he does not love fighting and he does not want to fight Robbie Lawler.
Diaz stated: “I don’t know why I’m doing this. This should not happen. Whoever set this up is an idiot. I don’t know why I’m doing this. I don’t know why this happened. I should be fighting Kamaru Usman and that’s it.”
Nick Diaz has been away from sports for over 6 years now. And he has not looked good during his time off from the sport as he was spotted partying, indulging in alcohol, and not looking like a professional athlete.
Now it must be noted that Nick Diaz was still probably training every week and he was still active when it comes to competing in the triathlon. However, he did not look like a professional MMA fighter during his time off from the sport, which is not unusual considering he was not looking to make a return.
But, now that he is getting back into the octagon fans are concerned whether Nick Diaz is at the right place physically and mentally to compete in the octagon.
Conor McGregor sends a message to NICK DIAZ ahead of UFC 266
Well, former UFC two-division champion, Conor McGregor shared his thoughts on this. McGregor believes that Nick Diaz will have a great return at UFC 266. McGregor responded to the concerns surrounding Diaz’s return and said:
“Relax, it’s a scrap, he loves it. Great to see Nick back. And Robie. it is a perfect match! I pray for both a solid performance, a great fight, and safe and healthy the next morning with all the beautiful memories and experience this mad buzz gives them/us/me. God Bless.”
There are some red flags ahead of the return of Diaz. He has not competed for over 6 years and he has taken a lot of damage throughout his MMA career. So it might be a disastrous outcome at UFC 266 for Diaz and his fans.
But, it’s needless to say that the majority of the fans will be rooting for Nick Diaz to secure an impressive win against Robbie Lawler.
