Henry Cejudo is one of the best combat athletes to ever set foot into the octagon in the modern era. “Triple C” is one of the very few fighters who have held titles in two different weight classes (Flyweight and Bantamweight) simultaneously. Cejudo also have an Olympic Gold medal in Freestyle Wrestling.
After his win over the UFC legend Dominick Cruz at UFC 249, Cejudo mentioned in his post fight interview that he has decided to quit professional MMA. After his retirement, Cejudo had constantly teased about coming back from retirement and has called out many fighters.
The latest fighters to be called out by Cejudo is the current UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski. But surprisingly, Cejudo also had some harsh words which were specifically targeted to a MMA legend.
Henry Cejudo slams Georges St-Pierre for handpicking Michael Bisping for his return bout
Henry Cejudo sat down with ESPN MMA’S Marc Raimondi for an interview in which, Cejudo took some verbal shots at Georges St-Pierre. Talking about his urge to return for a possible match-up against the Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski, Cejudo said he is not like Georges St-Pierre.
Cejudo claimed that St-Pierre had carefully ‘cherry-picked’ Michael Bisping for his octagon return in 2017. GSP came into the octagon after a long lay-off and challenged Bisping for his Middleweight title at UFC 217. St-Pierre had defeated Bisping via submission to become the champion. GSP vacated the belt soon after and retired from MMA in 2019.

Cejudo later said he don’t want to hand pick fighters like GSP did, but wants to face the best pound for pound fighters like Alexander Volkanovski. “I ain’t no Georges St-Pierre where I’m gonna go in there, cherry-pick Michael Bisping, and then take off. GSP, he cherry-picked Michael Bisping, and I’ll tell that to his face too, I’mma tell him, ‘Hey man! You cherry-picked and you left!’ With me, I’m going up against the No. 3 pound-for-pound best fighter, probably the greatest featherweight in history.”
Cejudo wants to be a three division champion, wants Alexander Volkanovski for his return bout
Henry Cejudo has been calling out Volkanovski ever since the champ’s impressive win against Brian Ortega in the main event of UFC 266. The Australian had a gruesome battle with Ortega that went on for full five rounds.
Henry Cejudo is confident in his ability to beat Alexander Volkanovski. He recently mentioned in an interview that the featherweight champion wouldn’t last more than three rounds if they ever met in the octagon.

Facts are facts ????
Thanks for the time @espnmma @marc_raimondi, but I have A LOT more to say. Tomorrow, I set the record straight once and for all on a BRAND NEW episode of The Triple C & Schmo Show. Your future featherweight champ, CCC???? pic.twitter.com/GOGelLG4qe
Cejudo also said that his return fight would be a challenge to UFC president Dana White and not so much to Alexander Volkanovski. It would be interesting to see if Dana White can make the Volkanovski vs Cejudo fight possible in the future.
Dana White is not to keen to book Cejudo vs Volkanovski
Though fans are excited to watch the showdown between Henry Cejudo and Alexander Volkanovski Dana White is not too keen to book this matchup. White believes that there are many top contenders in the featherweight division who deserve a title fight more than Henry Cejudo, who retired after UFC 249. White stated:
“He retired. he has been off all this time. You want to come back and fight Volkanovski and jump the line? Jump over Max and all these guys that have been there. It’s a tough conversation.”
What do you think about this matchup? Does Cejudo have a chance at beating arguably the greatest featherweight of all time in Volkanovski?
