Shavkat Rakhmonov who is currently competing in the welterweight division is one of the hottest commodities in the UFC right now. So far the Kazakh born fighter has delivered on the hype and his recent spinning wheel kick TKO win over Carlston Harris in the first round of UFC Vegas 47 is a small glimpse of what’s to come next.
Consequently, after Rakhmonov extended his unbeaten streak to 15-0, he sat down for an interview with Young N Faded MMA society. In this interview, Shavkat spoke about his recent win and also discussed several other topics. During this conversation, the interviewer asked Rakhmonov whether he is annoyed by the constant questions related to Khamzat Chimaev.
He responded by saying “Yeah, I really am. It’s just annoying getting reminded of a certain individual all the time. I’m saying wait, we’ll see when the time comes. He will win some fights, I will win some. And then, we’ll meet. Maybe our fight will be a title bout at that time.”
Will Shavkat Rakhmonov face Khamzat Chimaev next?
The Kazakh born fighter has ruled out Chimaev as an option for his next fight. But fans would love to see Shavkat Rakhmonov and Khamzat Chimaev fight against each other because both these welterweights are currently undefeated. Moreover, both Rakhmonov and Chimaev have finished all their opponents quickly in one sided fashion.
Therefore it would be interesting to see who comes out on top in this highly anticipated matchup. However, Khamzat is ranked higher and is in talks with Gilbert Burns for a fight. So as of now we could likely see Khamzat go against Gilbert Burns. Besides, Shavkat will need to get few more wins under the belt before facing the Borz.
A good option for Rakhmonov would be to face someone like Li Jingliang, who is coming off a loss against Chimaev and is ranked #13 in the division. Also, the UFC won’t rush a big prospect like Shavkat into a big fight so soon.
