Joe Rogan has had a successful career in the spotlight for over two decades. His career spans several avenues, right from TV shows early on to hosting the biggest podcast on earth and everything in between. While life may seem pretty good for the 55-year-old comedian at present, such hasn’t always been the case for Joe.
Like many individuals, Joe had a rough childhood, and he has often touched upon it in the past. Joe was born on August 11, 1967, to parents Mary Rogan and Joseph Rogan. His mother was a former gym instructor, whereas Rogan Sr. was a New Jersey police officer. The UFC commentator grew up in Massachusetts, Boston, and attended Newton South High School.
The retired cop currently residing in Kearny, New Jersey. This isn’t far from the city in which Rogan was born, Newark. Rogan also has a half-sister named Bridget Rogan Carselda, who in turn has a twin sister, Rosa Rogan Lunelli. Bridget serves as a government worker in North Arlington, NJ while her twin is a professional makeup artist and hairstylist.
Joseph has allegedly been largely absent from his son’s childhood. As per Rogan Sr., he hasn’t spoken to or seen Joe Rogan since he was a 7-year-old boy, almost 5 decades ago. Rogan has gone on record speaking about his father’s violent behavior, something that Rogan Sr. has always denied.
Joseph Rogan Sr. goes on a rant about his son
Rogan Sr. usually doesn’t do media and interviews, but when he does, he has mixed feelings to express about his son. Recently, Rogan Sr. appeared on a YouTube channel that goes by – ‘GG33 Academy.’ Unlike many people’s expectations, he didn’t have nice things to say about his 55-year-old son. He shared, “Joe knows he’s sweet and he’s got sugar in his tank, and he knows that he can’t be a tough guy.”
He went on to discredit Joe’s short stint as a martial artist and said, “He can take up all the karate in the world, go to all the dojos you want, lift all the weights he wants. But when you’re born, if you don’t have this [while pointing to his heart], you better stay the hell home. If you ain’t got heart, you ain’t gotta do s**t out here. Joe’s a phony.”
It is unclear what subject he was exactly referring to when speaking about the UFC commentator. This is just a snippet of the podcast and the full episode is yet to be released.
What did Joe Rogan have to say about his father?
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, the 55-year-old comedian described his father as a violent individual. He also accused his father of carrying a raging personality throughout his childhood. Joe’s parents divorced when he was just 5 years old, however, he was mentally scarred by then.
The Texas resident shared, “All my damaged s**t came from my real father before I was seven. My real father was crazy, he was like a psychotic person. He beat the f**k out of my mother, he beat the f*ck out of my cousin. He picked my cousin up by his hair, dude.”
“All I remember of my dad are these brief, violent flashes of domestic violence,” continued Joe. “But I don’t want to complain about my childhood. Nothing bad ever really happened to me. I don’t hate the guy.”
Rogan also shared that his father owned a bar where he’d often see his old man get into brawls with customers. He elaborated, “When I was five, I’d sit there and put money in the jukebox, and every now and then I’d sit there and watch him beat the f*ck out of someone.”
Whether Joe will ever come to terms with his father, only time will tell. Until then, what do you make of the duo’s relationship? Let us know in the comments down below.
