Khamzat Chimaev has made a great impact by wrecking all his competition so far since making his UFC debut in 2020. A few weeks ago in his recent fight at UFC 267, Chimaev exhibited his dominance over Li Jingliang by submitting him in the first round of the fight.
Hence the Swedish based fighter has grabbed the attention of everyone around the globe by his performances in the welterweight division. Consequently, many fight fans and analysts are impressed with how Khamzat has shown his authority by finishing all the opponents put forward by the promotion.
Among these well-established personalities, UFC commentator Joe Rogan shared his thoughts about Khamat Chimaev’s rise in the division in his podcast. During one of the segments of the Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan discussed with his guest how Chimaev needs to face tougher competition in the future.
Joe said that “Khamzat Chimaev is really interesting. He’s scary as f**k.” However, he also believes that Borz has to face difficult opponents and also weighed in on his past opponents. “Like Li Jing Liang is a tough guy but he’s not at that level. So is Gerald Meerschaert, tough guy but not at that level.
Joe Rogan wants to see Khamzat Chimaev take on Leon Edwards or Neil Magny next
While speaking about how Khamzat Chimaev should now go on and face opponents in the top flight of the division, Joe Rogan also suggested a few fighters who he thinks should be Borz’s next challenge in the division.
“I wanna see him against a guy like Leon Edwards. Neil Magny has also asked for a fight that would be interesting as well. Neil Magny will show you who you are.”
Both these matchups would excite a lot of fight fans. Owing to the fact, Magny and Edwards are very skilled and would pose a tough challenge to Chimaev. However, a fight with Leon Edwards so early wouldn’t make sense because there are fighters in the top bracket like Gilbert Burns and a few others who deserve a chance against the British fighter.
Hence the ideal matchup for Khamzat Chimaev would be against Neil Magny. Because he ranks eighth currently and a win over him would help him leapfrog Magny and enter the top 7 or top 8 in the welterweight division. Comment below you think should face Khamzat Chimaev in his next fight?
