Josh Emmett is the #5 ranked featherweight in the UFC heading into UFC 284. Emmett takes on the #2 ranked featherweight, Yair Rodriguez in the co-main event at the RAC Arena. They will fight in Perth for the interim UFC featherweight title. This fight is Emmett’s first title challenge, even if it is for an interim title.
The American featherweight trains out of the renowned gym, Team Alpha Male. Other successful UFC fighters from the gym include Chad Mendes, former WEC champion, Urijah Faber, and former UFC bantamweight champions, Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw. Despite training with fighters of such elite pedigrees. it would seem Emmett is a late bloomer, receiving his first title shot at the ripe age of 37.

However, Emmett and his family, especially his wife, Vanessa Emmett, seem quite excited for him. In the second episode of the UFC 284 Embedded Vlog Series, Vanessa was hyping up Emmett ahead of his fight in Perth. Speaking about the fight she said, “I think it’s rare to watch somebody do something that they’re just meant to do… And you just want that for them so badly.”
Vanessa continued, “So of course, I believe in Josh. I know what he’s capable of, I see how hard he trains and I know he’s prepared.” Going off of Vanessa’s words, Josh Emmett seems ready for the fight against Rodriguez on Feb 12. He will surely be using his wife’s encouraging words to keep him motivated as he cuts weight and eventually goes toe-to-toe with El Pantera in the octagon.
Josh Emmett is living the dream life with his wife Vanessa Emmett
Unlike many fighters in the UFC 284 card, Josh Emmett is making the most of his time as a tourist in Perth. Instead of training incessantly, Emmett decided to blow off some steam before Feb 12. He and his wife, Vanessa, were on a beach, enjoying the warm Australian summer in the latest Embedded episode.
During that episode, the #5 ranked featherweight said, “I just felt like, eventually I’ll be successful. I’ll do these things, but it’s kind of hard. They were dreams then and we’re actually living it now. This is the ultimate dream of mine…”
Josh continued, “We’re in Australia at the Indian Ocean on a beach just hanging out about to go fight for a world title. It doesn’t get any better than that.” His current mirth will only be magnified if Emmett can win his fight against Rodriguez.
The winner of the UFC 284 co-main will, at some point, unify their belt with the current champion, Alexander Volkanovski. The groundwork for this fight was laid back when Emmett called out Volk after beating Calvin Kattar. Surely, fighting for the undisputed belt after winning at Perth will make the dream life Emmett is living even better.
