The UFC’s Welterweight division is one of the most exciting and competitive divisions on the entire roster. As expected, Kamaru Usman, the UFC Welterweight kingpin is monitoring the division closely, as he attempts to surpass UFC legend Georges St-Pierre’s legacy to become the greatest Welterweight fighter of all time.
We just witnessed some clashes between the welterweight contenders in the likes of Khamzat Chimaev, Gilbert Burns, Vicente Luque, and Belal Muhammad. One of the winners might earn a title shot next.
On the other hand, Conor McGregor is also looking to make history by becoming the first one ever to have a championship title in three different divisions. He has been coming out of his recovery from his leg injury to go back to training and he has been making some noise recently.
In a recent interview, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was talking about his potential next opponent and Khamzat Chimaev‘s recent win over Gilbert Burns. Amidst all the discussion, Usman took some shots at McGregor.
“We’ve kind of got Leon Edwards sitting there. You got the other loudmouth, little kid… what’s the [pretended to forget Conor McGregor’s name]… Irish, Irish kid, you know the Irish guy? You got the Irish guy on the side, running his mouth,” said Usman ‘.
Surprisingly, the reporter asked, “The Conor McGregor, Irish guy?”
Usman replied with an explanation why Conor’s name is easy to forget, “This guy is not relevant. He’s not done anything in the sport as of late. So, for him to be relevant, he has to try to attach his name to someone relevant.”
‘The Notorious’ has been calling out Kamaru Usman for quite some time now and the fact that McGregor is the biggest money draw in the entire UFC, Usman might give Conor the chance he has been asking for.
Conor McGregor doesn’t see any threat in Kamaru Usman
The former champ-champ, Conor McGregor, recently interviewed and shared his thoughts on the reigning undisputed UFC Welterweight champ, Kamaru Usman.
McGregor said, “I feel confident against Usman. A Jab-happy, sloppy orthodox wrestler, with no submissions whatsoever. What’s he gonna do? Where is the danger here? I don’t see a danger with him.”
Kamaru Usman has been doing a lot of rematches lately. So, a new challenge and potentially ‘harmless’ yet money fight might suit him best. However, the fighters already in line for the title shot will have to wait for that.

Dana White has been trying to get Conor a new fight at 170lb for his comeback to the UFC. And as things stand, he has Nate Diaz’s final fight for that sensational fourth combat between the two legends.
If Conor wins this one, Usman will grant him a shot at the title. During his most recent interview on TMZ, this is what Usman said:
“If this little Irish b**** wins he gets his title shot next.”
It seems that Usman has cleared out the welterweight division. And the Nigerian has been quite dominant in his title defenses. Apart from Colby Covington, no other welterweight has presented a significant challenge against the pound-for-pound king. Thus, it is expected that Usman will be looking at a big payday fight against Canelo Alvarez or Conor McGregor before he thinks of retirement.
