It’s not possible to talk about the MMA GOATs and not mention the pride of Canada, Georges St-Pierre. After dominating UFC welterweights for multiple generations, Georges St-Pierre cemented his legacy by moving up to middleweight to fight the then champion, Michael Bisping.
Georges St-Pierre would defeat Michael Bisping to become the middleweight champion. And then due to a life-threatening illness, GSP relinquished the middleweight title. However, he has always kept the door open for one more fight in UFC. And it is against the lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
For a long time, UFC president, Dana White has not been so keen to make this fight happen. However, recently White stated that he is open to book this fight if Georges St-Pierre agrees to make the weight for the lightweight division. Khabib Nurmagomedov might retire after two more fights and he defends his title against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. So what better way to bid farewell to the sport than fight arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, Georges St-Pierre.
The superhuman lifestyle of Georges St-Pierre
Even though GSP has announced retirement he is still in shape. In fact, he is in better shape than he ever was. Georges St-Pierre has been very vocal with the issues he faced after he moved up to middleweight for the title fight with Michael Bisping.
Georges St-Pierre put on a lot of weight in a short amount of time for that fight. And the excessive eating led to a career-threatening illness for GSP. Since then GSP has adapted to a more healthy style of living.
He has adapted to the life of intermittent fasting. GSP has always been smart with his workout and training. From the early days in his career, GSP has focused on becoming a better martial artist and an athlete instead. And his workouts revolve around achieving explosiveness and athleticism. And that has definitely worked for the former UFC champion.
We can certainly see the result as the current physique of GSP has shocked the fans. At the age of 39, GSP looks better than ever before. And if he is to come back and fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at lightweight, physically he will be at a good place undoubtedly.
