Dana White recently announced that UFC is not going to strip the lightweight title from Khabib Nurmagomedov. He also stated that the fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is going to be a non-title match.
However, the recent comments by the reigning UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov will come as a shocker for the fans. As per RT sports, Khabib opened up about his plans for the future and stated:
“You can fight until you’re 40 but there should be a goal. I had a goal to reach the summit and I got there. Further, I have no competitive interest. “Next year I will graduate. I’d like to [build on] my thesis, do a masters course, dedicate more time to studying. “I’ve bought sheep, I tend to my farm. I’d like to develop in this field a little. I have the bull calves out to feed, I have cows.”
Dana White also reacted to Khabib’s recent comments in an interview with Barstool Sports and stated that he is unsure about what Khabib is going to do. However, he still believes that an MMA return is certainly on the card for The Eagle.
Who should Khabib Nurmagomedov fight next if he returns?
There are a number of good matchups for Khabib Nurmagomedov if he decides to come back. If Conor McGregor wins against Dustin Poirier then a rematch between Khabib and Conor will be the fight that makes the most sense. Besides that, a fight against Tony Ferguson or Michael Chandler will also intrigue the fans.
However, Khabib Nurmagomedov stated during his final octagon interview that he is not interested in fighting the current UFC lightweights. But, if UFC can make a fight between Khabib and GSP then that might be an offer that Khabib can not decline.
Though Khabib Nurmagomedov has announced retirement and has confirmed his decision fans will not stop speculating a return for the next few years. After all, Georges St-Piere came back 4 years after to fight for the middleweight champion.
